Guardian Gets Caught Lying – Scales Back Their BS

Last week, the Guardian published this spectacular lie –

Ocean acidification due to carbon emissions is at highest for 300m years | Environment | The Guardian

This was patently false. pH was much lower in the past.

So they have scaled back their lies to something only slightly less disgusting.

  1. gator69 says:

And they ‘know’ this because an alarmist said so.

    • Latitude says:

and they get away with it because people are ignorant about biological processes…
…if CO2 could change the pH….the ocean wouldn’t work the way it does right now

  2. BobW in NC says:

..and it would be interesting to calculate the carbonate-bicarbonate buffering capacity relative to the carbonic acid produced by CO2 absorption into water! Bet the buffering would win, hands down!

  3. PatrickC says:

It’s The Guardian. Surely that is enough said?

  4. squid2112 says:

Actually, technically, they could be correct. They state “Rate of ocean acidification due to carbon emissions is at highest for 300m years”.

Well now, since we have only had “carbon emissions” for the past, say, 100 yrs, we can remove the 299.9m years prior to that, since there were no “carbon emissions” then.

Now, as for the past 100 years, the rate of ocean acidification due to carbon emissions is probably ZERO, so, zero is the same as zero from before, so it is indeed at its highest, which is still ZERO

    • gator69 says:

Maybe if they had said ‘human’ carbon ‘dioxide’ emissions, they would be correct. But they are a long way from achieving any intelligent communication, and even further away from understanding our oceans.

      • squid2112 says:

Well, yeah, that is for sure. I was just pointing out that if you literally take into context their sentence, they *could* (and I stress could) be correct. But it would be a bit of a stretch to say the least and deceptive without doubt.

  5. I wonder what the rate of acidification was 251 million years ago when the Siberian Traps emitted 100,000 gigatons of CO2. Yeah sure it almost killed everything but it makes the statement a lie

  6. tom0mason says:

But the Guardian BS got out and was allowed to stay unchanged for some time. Will the people convinced by the first reports bother reading, and understand the differences of the second. I doubt it.

  7. It’s still wrong. What was the rate of acidification 65 mya when the asteroid hit?

  8. Gamecock says:

Well, heck, if “mass extinction of species may be inevitable,” we should ignore and go on about our business. Inevitable is inevitable. Unless you are recreating.

  9. Phaedo. says:

Ludicrously they might be correct! The international system of units defines the symbol for millions as M, upper case, while that for thousandths is m, lower case. So it’s actually claiming that ocean acidification is highest, or the rate of change is highest, for 0.3 years.

  10. Stew Green says:

Steve you have rushed and made the same error. The obvious error was not in the title, rather it was in the first sentence with the word “acidic” . It originally read “The oceans are more acidic now than they have been for at least 300m years” not even the alarmist meant to say that, they meant to say ‘The oceans are have a rate of acidification more now than they have been for at least 300m years’ which is contentious. Harvey tweeted that first erroneous line to promote the article.
    – the fact no war mist noticed that simple error, and the way the Guardian took 6 days to correct it .. And fail to acknowledge the nature of the misdirection .. Speaks volumes for how they feel about truth in the climate change debate

  11. mikael says:

I love this, and their deperate lies are becoming hilarious, but to a ordinary dumb f…. its sufficient to read in the MSM to be “nothing but the trut”.
But to the sane world the pickture is different, and lets recap abitt, some decades ago, they talked about some thousands of underwater vulcanos, and a decade later the number was on thens of thousands, and now, they belive its about Millions of so caled vulcans, emitting or whatever they do emitt, but mainly the same as a overwater vulcano does, massive CO2.
Some of the vulcanoes, dwarfs what ever WE could produce of CO2 within days.

And this, I dont remeber the exact terms, is the main driver for the worlds CO2 emittions, both on land and under water, and as the converting to Oxygen is mainly done by Planctons, not trees a.s.o.. and when you think of the ongoing Fukushima, contra the rise of Isotops in the pasific sea basin, and its is going to afect the planctons ability to reproduce,

No, this is planly bogus science as always in this days, they lie about everything.
And if I dont remeber totaly wrong, do correct me, the Sun in a closed sustem as they defind it, the radiation and warming of the the earth, is just about 2.7%, the rest acordinlgy to their Eco system, is done by reflecting heat from WHAT:

You know, I dont even bother to read anything else, when the Sun is diminished to the sice of a brass fart sice, regading the globale temp, I know the rest is pure manure.

    peace
