One of the country’s leading climate scientists says there is “a good chance” for a “super El Niño” next winter, a powerful warming in the Pacific Ocean linked to wet winters in the Southwest. In a draft paper circulated to colleagues, NASA climate researcher James Hansen blames global warming for increasing the chance of extreme El Niños.
When they happen, such extreme El Niños can wreak weather havoc worldwide, from deep drought in Australia to flooding in California.
Hansen’s new paper drew a flurry of attention among scientists because of his standing as one of the nation’s most prominent climate scientists.
Since Hansen’s ingenious forecast, ENSO has gone sharply negative.
“… Since Hansen’s ingenious forecast, ENSO has gone sharply negative… “
Looks like they’re still expecting another strong El Nino to hit the central Pacific anytime (as the one they said would happen in 2012, but it didn’t …), because they cannot learn with the observed facts (they’ve proven this repeatedly) that point to the obvious conclusion that the Sun drives this oceanic oscillation too.
“Hansen’s new paper drew a flurry of attention among lunatics because of his standing as one of the nation’s most prominent climate lunatics”
Award-winning NASA Astronaut and Physicist Walter Cunningham of NASA’s Apollo 7 wrote of Hansen.

Looks like the ENSO has been effectively neutral for almost two years. A strong two years of La Nina would be very interesting right now.
