Notice how well the ice area was in 2008 too and how 2012 is much closer to 2013 than at the peak of the summer. The high icecap of the recent winters (2008, 09, 10, 12 and 13) was already an indication that the recovery would happen sooner or later *and* of the sensibility of the Arctic ice to solar radiations.
According to JAXA, 2008 is the highest ice extent for the beginning of November *since 2002*.
That’s how well the Arctic ice is doing this year, possibly recovering in a few months the loss of an entire decade.
Chart seems to show winter, spring, summer, and fall. Not a new concept.
Steve – I count myself among the skeptics. I’ve gotten bashed recently, though, for speculating that the increase in Antarctic ice is coming from warmer waters melting the ice from below. Is there empirical data showing exactly where this additional ice is coming from?
I can understand why you would get bashed for saying that.
