I’ve been wondering how they manage to get an Arctic temperature. My understanding is that there are only a few temperature stations above the 80th parallel and our satellites are limited to the 80th as well. In the past James Hansen just painted the Arctic red because it met his needs for a warming Arctic; not that it was really happening.
Hansen made the Arctic red because that was the only crayon left.
It matched his favorite Chairman Mao tunic.
The first paragraph of the story he is referencing.
“Plenty of studies have shown that the Arctic is warming and that the ice caps are melting, but how does it compare to the past, and how serious is it?”
Ice Caps are melting? I guess record ice in the Antarctic equals melting by his “logic”. This goes to show the belief in CAGW will die a thousand deaths before it becomes obsolete regardless of the evidence.

Oh, but that’s exactly what global warming predicts…. (after we saw it happening, because earlier that’s not what we were predicting but then we made up some story about increased precipitation…. yadda… yadda. yadda. )
Wasn’t the scientific community once, and rightly so, concerned about ice gains? How much fun did we have during previous ice ages? And what do these morons have against interglacials? Someone needs to tell Goldilocks that melting ice, when it occurs, is OK.
This idiot thinks 44,000 is some kind of number? 10,000 was the beginning of the current interglacial. Before that the arctic was 44,000 times colder so he’s a card-carring mo-ron!

The record increase in ice this summer must be due to that record heat.
The warmists are up to there old Orwellian tricks. If you can’t hide the decline, just say that the decline is really an incline, that cold is hot. No kidding. And as I said on Caleb’s blog about the current Arctic conditions regarding the sad spectacle of massive numbers of cattle freezing in South Dakota:

It’s the cold air coming down into the Dakotas in early October from the doubly frozen and ice laden Arctic being driven by the missing heat…. in the deep oceans. Right. I don’t understand lies like this. The Holocene began 12,000 years ago, for the 100,000 years prior to the Holocene interglacial the world was in a glacial epoch. If you wish to lie, just say it has not been this warm for 12,000 years. Simple. Why include just the last 30,000 years of the last glacial? Is Billy saying the first 70,000 years of the glacial were warmer than today? There are lies and then there are stupid lies.

Nice page there Morgan, however you should mention that the image “Global Land-Ocean Temperature Index” chart has been tampered with by GISS, considering the 1930’s were hotter than today. Replace it with one of Hansen’s first charts, or better still, use Hansen’s first chart underneath to show the tampering. Maybe even this image here (anim):

I like to use the warmists own charts and data against them. Global warming is such a crock that I can easily prove them wrong with their own data and charts, which makes it a lot more fun. Like on my page where I say “The is a picture of Al Gore disproving AGW but he’s too stupid to know it.” I don’t want to use the correct data, not as much fun.
It’s bad enough to hide the 1930’s. Now they want to hide every warm spell since the last Ice Age.
Yes. Though the deception on the thirties is the real doozy. Because, of course, with it warmer in the 1930s then today, then the whole global warming scare is just pure ludicrous hogwash.

I read the article. They found moss in old snow on Baffin Island and dated it to 44,000 years old, but said it may actually be 120,000 years old, not sure. They said this proves that it’s never been this hot in the past 44,000 years. Or maybe 120,000.
I’m thinking, if the moss was buried under 2 miles of ice and it took the entire Holocene to melt down to where the moss was, that has nothing to do with how warm it was before. It takes time to melt 2 miles of ice on Baffin Island. Duh Duh and triple DUH!
McKibbin reminds me a bit of “Bhagdad Bob,” during the final phases of the war with Iraq. His focus is propaganda more than truth. Any shred of evidence, no matter how remote, is a straw he will cling to.
In the arctic there are some masses of ice that are still shrinking, as they have shrunk ever since the end of the past ice age. They are like the last bit of a prior winter’s snow on the north side of a hill in May.
In the arctic there are also plenty of other places that show temperatures have gone up and down since the past ice age, and which show the MWP was warmer.
You know, without needing to ask, which locations McKibbin will focus on.
Good analogy. It’s probably the same psychology, where dogged adherence to a particular point of view eventually leaves one so unmoored from reality that one’s statements become increasingly bizarre. Maybe McKibben is a bellwether, our own canary in the coal mine, although clearly he’s only one of the leading indicators. It’s nice that they’re all being tracked so carefully on this website.
