Normally the North Pole is above freezing for 70 days a year. On tenth of the way through the melt season, temperatures remain below freezing. It is tough to get an ice-free Arctic (like Al Gore predicted for 2014) if the winter freeze doesn’t melt in the summer.

It is new ice – it melts in the winter,.
Pneu or Pneux ice?
Gnue?
Knew
GNU ice; the ‘source’ (code) is open to all …
Pneu – Pneux is the french spelling. 😉
The answer
“At the drop of a hat”

Sorry Phil, plural of pneu (tyre, in French) is pneus. I know : French is a complicated language, full of exceptions. It’s the language I’m mostly speaking and writing, all year long. :o)
Jean -Paul – I have a bad habit of not putting a sarc tag on my sarcastic comments. But thank you for the correction. I really was not thinking of it in the literal French sense.
To melt or not to melt.
That is the question.
Whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the Reggie’s and blowtorches of outrageous fraudsters, or to take icebreakers against a sea of multi year ice.
my apologies to W. Shakespeare.
Excellent Andy 😉
Reggies blow thingy is MIA
It iced up..
The temperatures on the shoulders of the graphs show quite a variance over the different years.
The should review their model in the first 100 days and last ~ 60 days of the year, but “middle part” seems quite good.
So, seriously, this is an unusual phenomenon. It did this last year also. There’s a reason. If we knew what that was, we could possibly know when it will happen each time. It is probably a solar wind/magnetic process occurring at the poles. Bastardi says (historically) the AMO seems to begin its shift, shifts back briefly, then makes the shift. But it really looks like its just going to make the shift now. It could be late 70’s all over again by next year. He also says the modoki pattern means a cold winter the following winter in the USA. So, prepare for more of the same.
What will the cultists do when their dream dissolves? Seriously? What will they cling to?
What will they do? Something stupid… How about this?
“Sure it is cooling. The carbon greenhouse effect is working to warm things up and WOULD have been a disaster by itself — but there are other things going on at the same time. Did you know that the world electrical grid is de-gaussing the earth’s magnetic field? All that AC current is destroying the magnetic shield that protects our planet from cosmic rays. The extra cosmic rays make it cloudier — heck! Even the climate deniers say that! — and for the moment, the cooling effect is outpacing the warming effect. If we just shut down the world power grid and go non-electrical, we can save the magnetic field — but then the CO2 will kill us. If we just shut down the fossil fuel death trains, we can save ourselves from the greenhouse — but if we keep electrical power, then we freeze to death. If humans want to survive, we need to stop using electricity and fossil fuels, both of them. We need to go to a small scale, sustainable life with solar heat and no electricity. You’ll like it once you see how it works!”
So, what do you think? Too stupid, even for a CAGW cultist? It sure sounds like something we would hear…
Wouldn’t climate “experts” just dust off their rhetoric from the 60s/70s about catastrophic cooling?
Hey Shanna M! The so-called experts will say whatever will bring the most funding. These days, governmental funding is MUCH more lucrative than private funding — and sadly, governmental funding is controlled by people who are power junkies. They will direct funding to whomever can give the most plausible sounding reason for making you and me into a serf, while leaving them in power. CAGW has been a wonderful idea for those who wish to receive a tax on essentially all energy usage — while simultaneously making the average person less prosperous. So, would catastrophic cooling work? Maybe… How about this —
“Yes! We were right back in the 70s! We are on the edge of an Ice Age! This is going to require massive investments in both new energy sources and new infrastructure. We may even have to nationalize agriculture and shift our farms into gigantic nationally controlled greenhouses. We will certainly need to ramp up research into nuclear fusion and alternate power. The possibility of glaciation means that traditional aquifers may go dry. The only way to achieve these goals needed for national survival is by implementing a form of energy tax. This will both encourage energy conservation and give us the extra funds for building the new infrastructure and research! The good news is that we expect the new research to pay dividends in the long term and actually produce cheaper energy in a few decades. You are not just saving our nation — you are helping yourself!”
Hmmm…. not too bad… Sure! Do it for the children!
“We’re SO confused!!? Research! We need more research, stat! At some stage we’ll reach a tipping point, and know what we’re talking about. Promise!”

Icebergs, with Polar bears for company.
Just wait until that missing/hiding heat comes to the surface, we will have an El Nino in the Arctic Ocean and all the ice will disappear making Big Al look like a genius….ok…back to reality…
WE should bring communism back it would distract the young warmists for some stupid goal they are missing LOL
I thought that’s what we keep North Korea around for.
For a socialist paradise, North Korea has surprisingly little immigration.
Apparently communism needs to be imported here instead for some reason.

The alarmists haven’t missed a beat – for example:
http://www.cbc.ca/natureofthings/m/episodes/arctic-meltdown-adapting-the-change
“Narrated by David Suzuki, the three-part series Arctic Meltdown documents the drastic changes the Arctic has seen over the last few years. From new companies rushing to claim the Arctic’s plentiful resources to the effect climate change has had on animals as well as plant life, the documentary, directed by Kristina Von Hlatky, asks the big question: as the Arctic meltdown continues at an ever accelerating pace, who will protect it?”
Go ahead and Google “Arctic Melddown 2014”. You’ll find plenty of propaganda for the low-information voter. I’m not sure who believes or cares what these kooks say, but they definitely have the airwaves and print media under their control and they are still banging on about Man-Made CO2 destroying the Arctic, biodiversity under siege, working with the Inuit elders, melting ice-oh horror!
Apparently they are immune to facts.
They were always immune to facts. Only “The Cause” matters.
Has anyone ever asked Mikey Mann exactly what “The Cause” actually IS?
Northern regions are quite cold in June:

I guess there will not be much polar ice melting in the coming days.
But what if CO2 is changing the melting point of ice?
Because SCIENCE.
