Scientists see an assortment of theoretical catastrophes just over the horizon, but the more dire their predictions, the more difficult it seems to find an appropriate response.

Catastrophes, like longest period without a major hurricane, fewer tornaodes, rebound in sea ice (sac). Warming, if any, gone flat and well within range of past natural variability. All so terrible. We are all going to die!

Permanent funding ploy. It seems to work, too. Politicians have no memory of the budgets they passed in the previous session.

Of course politicians have memories. They have to keep track of what favors are owed and whether they have been paid off.
