And remember all the hype about “extreme weather”? There was supposed to be a tornado, every hour of every day, for every square mile in the US.
What happened to all the tornadoes? Anyone…anyone…Bueller?

Obviously both all the heat and all the cold are hiding at the bottom of the ocean and biding their time until they emerge and freeze / cook us all 😉

In the United States, Medicare fraud is the collection of Medicare health care reimbursement under false pretences.

It’s way past time for a climate Inquisition to name, shame and bring to justice the worlds biggest climate fraudsters.
And since the alarmists want to imprison people who disagree with them, shouldn’t we balance this (for a balanced perspective) by talking about the appropriate steps to take to deal with scientific (and grant application) malfeasance? Or at least demand the grant money back!
I think that is what you Americans call all bases covered; can’t all be wrong so none right
And in the Northeast, the temperatures are pushed up by milder winters and warm water in the North Atlantic, said Kevin Trenberth, climate analysis chief at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. And less snow on the ground over the winter often means warmer temperatures, said Alan Betts, a climate scientist at Atmospheric Research in Pittsford, Vt.
The Southeast and Northwest were among the places that warmed the least. In the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, industrial sulfur particle pollutants from coal burning may be reflecting sunlight, thus countering heating caused by coal’s carbon dioxide emissions, said Pennsylvania State University professor Michael

Experts are saying that Pacific will face a huge El Niño this year. Have you heard something about it? http://www.metsul.com/blog2012/Home/home/638/Evento_de_chuva_extrema_no_Sul_do_Brasil_j%C3%A1_%C3%A9_efeito_do_El_Ni%C3%B1o_
No El Niño this year.
http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/enso/#tabs=Outlooks
I think that what’s happening now is very similar to 2012, when there was a little warming of the equatorial Pacific Ocean, starting in June up to ~ November, but the oscillation was not intense enough to be classified as an El NIno “episode”.
After the oscillation, the trend inverted (as usual) and the world temperatures ended up even a little lower than before, although not as low as at the beginning of the year,
http://www.woodfortrees.org/graph/rss/from:2001/plot/rss/from:2001/trend
The warming ENSO this year seems *less intense* than 2012,
http://stateoftheocean.osmc.noaa.gov/sur/images/nino34_short.gif
and the Antarctic basin is colder than 2 years ago, which favors the dampening of the oscillation.
If the solar radiations were strong as 12 years ago, I think the predictions of a strong El Nino could become true.
The fact that the climate prognosticators are almost always wrong, The fact that they always claim to be certain about things that basically cannot be known, and the fact that the climateers never seem to learn from past mistakes of over promising will be brushed off by the warmists/eco-loons as just the cost of doing business. They’re on a religous mission that they hold with a zealotry that would shock a member of the Taliban. Our warmist pals are out to save the planet from the comprehesive scourge of mankind (other mankind – not them) BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
It’s a noble cause; its therefore okay to be ‘corrupt’ in support of it. You just don’t get it. You are not just ‘enlightened’ is all … open your mind and pour out your brain and logical thinking faculties …

They know their crystal balls were foggy. Hence the newly discovered policy of concern for warming deep oceans. There’s no track record in history and the gullible civilians don’t have their own deep ocean thermometers to compare the experts’ with.
A nice collection of these things. Thanks.
I don’t quite see the inclusion of the one from the Windsor Star of 1972. The headline is exaggerated, especially with the “ ! ”
The headline should have ended with “ but not soon.”
But it is the paper’s editor that added the headline – not Hubert Lamb. Lamb seems to have gotten the general outline of the science right – but with the short term timing off. If Earth doesn’t experience a glacial advance (he says “Ice Age”) in the next 10,000 years he will be wrong and I will send you $100.00.
Snow is a thing of the past! It is also a thing of the present and future. They just left off the last part of the statement. 😉

Anyone care to comment or make a post regarding Ocean Acidification? I believe CO2 plays just a minor role in our climate… But much of the man made CO2 we produce may be being gobbled up by the Ocean, which acts as a CO2 buffer perhaps… Any thoughts or science would be appreciated…. Is sea life and coral being bleached out by Ocean Acidification or are there other factors involved…
Here is just a random article I found…
http://climateinterpreter.org/content/how-are-humans-causing-ocean-acidification
Corals and shellfish evolved with CO2 15 times higher than today. Ocean acidification is complete bullshit..
Anyone that thinks “manmade” CO2 can lower ocean pH needs a good review of chemistry.
Especially the section on BUFFERS!
Alarmists want to have it all ways: many say the oceans are warming; when that happens, they outgas CO2. If pH is lowering, it ain’t human contributed CO2.
Phil, you know that CO2 levels can reach over 1000ppm in a closed building….like a house in winter…
How do people keep aquariums like that?
Ah… Good analogy…. I suppose a warmist would have to say the fish would die…
…. But they don’t …
Every aquarium has a layer of dolomite on the bottom to buffer the pH
My Junior High chemistry teacher said the greatest source of oxygen is the organisms in the ocean who take in CO2 and create oxygen. Maybe that’s an overstatement as this article says half. But still, any CO2 getting into the ocean isn’t just staying there.
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/06/0607_040607_phytoplankton.html
Well this one says 50% to 85% of the world’s oxygen generation.
http://earthsky.org/earth/how-much-do-oceans-add-to-worlds-oxygen
What they really mean to say (but don’t dare for fear it weakens their “case”) is that CO2 absorption by the oceans may lower the pH of sea water, however what that actually means is that sea water may become LESS ALKALINE (apologies for the loud voice, but this is important), and is still a long way from becoming acidic. The term “acidification” is an emotive one used deliberately to mislead the uninformed public. Everyone knows that acid is corrosive, therefore must be “bad”. Alkaline substances are no less harmful, just check out your domestic cleaners to see what’s there and whether the alkaline cleaners are any less harmful tham the acidic ones. We ingest food and drink from all over the pH scale every day from both natural and manufactured sources. Don’t let the mere word “acidic” scare you.
@Phil Jones
Since you seem to know it all, can you please explain how oceans that warm up release CO2 and at the same time ‘gobble up’ manmade CO2? Is it some kind of magic?
No, I don’t know it all… Read a few more of my posts and you’ll see that support this blog, I think the Alarmists are a pack of liars feeding on fear and tax dollars… So let’s not knee jerk it like a Huff Po Alarmist ok?
I am simply bringing up a Climate Change topic and asking folks here to address it… My understanding is that the oceans absorb or release CO2 as temperature increases/decreases…. In addition water with more CO2 is acidic…
So how does that affect ocean life like corals, etc, if at all?? I’ve seen a few crockumentaries showing before/after video of coral areas which have been destroyed… They blamed industrial fishing, huge fishing nets dragged along, overfishing and Ocean Acidification…
What say you??
Ocean acidification is an endless trip into the whirlpool. That is why the “Warmists” use it. It cannot be proved or disproved, at the “macro” levels of oceans. But, in lab experiments, large reservoirs flush with carbonate ions, handle CO2 extremely well. The CO2 remains in solution until it is needed, or expelled to the atmosphere. The acidity is not reduced.
If you are a sincere skeptic, Phil, all you need to ask your “Warmist” friends is “What is the pH of the ocean supposed to be?”
Watch the blank look on their face.
… More like what is it’s ph range supposed to be and are we somehow changing that such that existing sea life is affected…. Or not… The oceans are so vast I don’t see how a little carbon burning can really do anything…
I did have one warmist friend… A scientist… Who now is more of a skeptic….
And drink some carbonated water when you ask.
😉
Scarface, the thought is that warm water doesn’t dissolve as much CO2 as cold water, but the reality is warm water supports more life than cold water, and life is made of CO2, so warm water holds more carbon (as biomass)
Life will try and cling on to any useful niche it finds be it hot, warm or cold.
Most life seems to prefer warm – somewhere around 30°C +/- 15°C.
The Huff and the Puff of the Fear Mongers
To understand the huff and puff of the fear mongering of the leftist activists and leftist activist “scientists” just take a look at some of the things they have said openly. Like this:
“We have to offer up scary scenarios… each of us has to decide the right balance between being effective and being honest.” -Stephen Schneider, lead ipcc author, 1989
And this: “Unless we announce disasters no one will listen.” -Sir John Houghton, first ipcc chair
And this: “The only way to get our society to truly change is to frighten people with the possibility of a catastrophe.” -Daniel Botkin, ex Chair of Envinronmental Studies, UCSB
So we got this: “Entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.” -Noel Brown, ex UNEP Director, 1989
And this: “[in twenty years (2008)] the West Side Highway [and thus much of Manhattan] will be under water.” -James Hansen, 1989, NASA
NONE of the countless “scary scenarios” that they have been making up for decades have come true. None. In fact none of them have even come remotely close to the truth. For example, as far as we can tell with our actual eyes, the sea level is just the same as it was in 1989. No change.
And the temperatures have been flatlining for close to 20 years. No global warming, despite the unimpeded rise of CO2, and this essentially falsifies their theory, as reflected in the abject failure of all their climate models: http://www.drroyspencer.com/2013/06/still-epic-fail-73-climate-models-vs-measurements-running-5-year-means/
Recently, and historically (based on ice core data), CO2 has not been shown to be a cause of global temperature change. All the warmists have is a theoretical model to back their claims, no evidence. But an alternative theoretical model posits that CO2 has close to zero effect beyond atmospheric concentrations above 200 parts per million (we now have 400ppm). This postulation seems more consistent with the evidence.
Indeed…. HOW can we get this info out there??
Huff Po and others constantly repeat the same predictions of the past 30-100 years… Yet not one of them has come true… NOAA had the nerve to claim April 2014 as the hottest ever recorded Globally… HOW??… Where was it excessively warm enough in April to offset the cold in the USA?? When will these folks be forced to acknowledge the failure of their predictions, theories, and models??
Probably never…. Worldwide Politics is solidly supporting Climate Change…
Warmists are vested in controlling people one way or the other… Communists, Socialists, Progressives, Alarmists… Always asserting power of the few over many… To the detriment of the masses… It’s sad…
Indeed…. HOW can we get this info out there??
We need to do an advertising campaign. A huge one.
Attack the warmists and their bs on all fronts and their numbers will come tumbling down, except for in liberal / elitist quarters where they already think that the draconian prescriptions of the Chicken Littles is the “right thing to do” regardless of whether the theory is right or wrong. Somebody needs to step up to the plate that can raise a ton of money and put together a sharp creative team, and change (maybe save!) the world.
“… NOAA had the nerve to claim April 2014 as the hottest ever recorded Globally… HOW??.. ‘
Didn’t happen,
http://www.woodfortrees.org/graph/rss/from:2001/plot/rss/from:2001/trend
look for example at 2012 and 2010, much warmer than last April.
That’s why people here call them religious fanatics, only dumb “believers” can accept what they say.
It’s ridiculous, and even more ridiculous the fact that they have so much power.
Place your bets, place your bets! The UK Met Office has made another prediction for summer:
On the other hand that 25% number is fun, since the last time I recall they went into chances their supercomputer said 30% chance of hot, 30% average, 40% cold. You’d do better looking out a window.
No matter what it’ll be hot on paper…. No matter what the temps are…. They have too much invested to stop lying now…
“2014 Hottest on Record Globally”
So there is a 75% chance it will not be one of the warmest summer seasons? Not quite as good a headline, I think.
Nor this headline : Warmest summer season? Unlikely say scientists!
In 1971, John Holdren edited and contributed an essay to a book entitled Global Ecology: Readings Toward a Rational Strategy for Man. He wrote (along with colleague Paul Ehrlich) the book’s sixth chapter, called “Overpopulation and the Potential for Ecocide.”
And his predict was –
It is interesting to note that as recently as 2009, Holdren proposed combining his two disaster scenarios by suggesting we purposely inject pollutants into the upper atmosphere, using the global cooling effects of pollution to cancel out the global warming effects of pollution. (Though he backpedaled after claiming that the media misconstrued his recommendation.)
As the passage above shows, Holdren predicted that the ice age was going to be only a “short-term threat,” and that global warming (as opposed to cooling) would eventually doom us all in the end, if the mini ice age hadn’t already finished us off. However, after discussing the by-then well-known “greenhouse effect,” Holdren sets that concept aside and instead predicts that the coming global overheating will be caused not by the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide but instead simply by human-caused excess heat generation.
I wonder what happened to this John Holdren guy?
Doesn’t sound he should be anywhere near a position involving real flesh and blood people, such as a senior advisor to President on science and technology through a role as Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy) or co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) even …
.
John Holdren as Obama’s Science Czar should scare the living daylights out of ANY sane rational person!

There is the problem only the electorate, when educated, can respond to.
I think they responded to Eric Cantor tonight; he will no longer be House Majority leader come next year and his chances of being Speaker of the House are near zero too now …
His chances are zero. I helped to make sure of that.
Quote of the day:
“I am concerned about our public integrity …” said Douglas Story in the American Chemical Society’s weekly magazine Chemistry and Engineering News in September 1993. “When I see the people who lectured in the early 1970s at my university about the coming environmental disaster of global cooling, now lecturing (and making a good living at it) about the coming disasters of global warming … it petrifies me to know that government bureaucrats and politicians are developing social and business policies based upon this camera-lens science.”

Those interested in ocean chemistry can start here:
http://www.arizonadailyindependent.com/2014/01/28/the-myth-of-ocean-acidification-by-carbon-dioxide/
It is short, but seems to cover the main points. If you do not have chemistry in your background, I suggest following each word you do not feel comfortable with: pH; alkalinity; hydrogen ion; partial pressure, and so on.
It is worth noting that carbonate-shelled organisms live in fresh water lakes and streams and some move from stream to ocean and back. Water on land in streams and lakes or near ocean shores can be less than 7 pH, that is, acidic. Rain with its load of CO2 is likewise, but these are weak acids.
http://www.chemguide.co.uk/physical/acidbaseeqia/acids.html
FWIW Caves are formed because water and CO2 form a weak acid (called rain) that dissolves limestone, dolomite and marble.

Here are my forecasts for the first round of the Cup
Group A Brazil and Croatia or Mexico
Group B Spain and Netherlands or Chile
Group C Greece and ???
Group D England and Italy or more likely Uruguay
Group E France and Switzerland
Group F Argentina and Bosnia
Group G Germany and Portugal
Group H Russia and Belgium
By your picks, you are saying Greece has the easiest grouping.
The weird thing about Hansen’s Scenario C is that Schmidt and Tamino say that observations SUPPORT his C.
I couldn’t understand the reasoning, but they do.
