June 27 Global Sea Ice Area Fourth Highest On Record – Highest Since 1996

Nobel Laureate Albert Arnold Gore Jr. said there was a 75% chance the Arctic would be ice free this summer, but in fact we have seen quite the opposite.

The amount of sea ice on Earth is 4th highest on record for the date, and the highest since 1996.

The Independant has an article titled “Over half of emperor penguins will be ‘wiped out by end of the century’ due to melting sea ice”

No one seems to have told them that Antarctic sea ice are is the highest on record today 🙂

We could send the Akademik Shokalskiy and the Xue Long (Snow Dragon) and the Aurora Australis .

      • Paul in Sweden says:

LOL! Anyone hear an update on Prof. Turkey and the Ship of Fools Rescue Bill?

…and who is swimming or rowing to the North Pole this summer?

    • Jimbo says:

Martin, I note the article also says:

Too much ice requires longer trips for penguin parents to travel to the ocean to hunt and bring back food for their chicks,” she said. Though she conceded that some colonies may actually benefit from the melting sea ice, Dr Jenouvrier said “this growth will be short-lived”.

Penguins must be suffering. They will still blame global warming.

Check this out from 2012. Emperor penguin numbers DOUBLE previous estimates.

They don’t care about the data, that’s so weird.
I bet they don’t even *know* what measured data means!
They must be preparing another trip to Antarctica this year, but because the ice is bigger they’ll probably be trapped for a longer time!! 🙂

  2. Robertv says:

The Emperor Penguin could have a big walking problem this spring.

There’s honest money, honestly made then there’s big Al Gore.
What fat, unscrupulous, Al shows us it that wealth can be accrued being smooth and oily yet treachously rabble-rousing and always being sly, devious, sneaky, furtive, secretive, insidiously deceitful, cagey, calculating, conniving, covert, crafty, slick, crooked and underhand, cunning, deceptive and designing, dishonorable, constantly dissembling with double-speak while double-dealing, elusive, furtive, traitorously guileful, illusory, insidious, mean, plotting, and scheming but that’s all.
Please don’t take this the wrong way, no ad hom. is intended or, I believe, given.

I wonder what it will be when the AMO goes negative?

    • Dmh says:

I think this will happen in the next ~ 2 years, the high Antarctic anomalies may be already an indication of this change.
2015 promises to be a *very* interesting year for climate-n-solar-radiations studies.

  5. Anthony S says:

As I recall, the satellite record showed that when the Arctic Ice grew in the late 70’s, it rebounded very quickly. Seems like that’s what’s happening again now.

  6. Andy says:

The Antarctic anomaly is very large at the moment,

Is it me or is it starting to look like a hockey stick ? heh.

Hopefully NSIDC will comment on it fully in the monthly Sea Ice update.
