Nobel Prize Winning Forecast Runs Into A Minor Snag

Nobel Laureate (and inventor of the Internet) Al Gore solemnly predicted that there was a 75% chance the Arctic would be ice-free this summer.

But he ran into a minor problem. With only 90 possible melt days remaining, the ice is 10 feet thick and temperatures have remained several degrees below freezing.

Hopefully Reggie is firing up his blowtorch.

Must be the new Global Warming trend. Warmer in winter and colder in summer.

  2. philjourdan says:

Did he go for a personal observation? That would have caused a massive refreeze.

  3. Gail Combs says:

HMMmmmm That temperature graph is even worse than last year when the temperature stayed below normal the entire melt season.

Gore was simply fed by Hansen. Dummy Duo.
But look at the travesty of the dignity of the Nobel Prize. Given to Gore on foolish ideology and
to Obama on something in its history was never done before (I believe) – betting on the come,
with no substance (only words) to be on. IMO that will forever tarnish the image of the award.
Then again, someone like Dyson does not receive it.

  6. Isn’t that red bit Reggie’s blowtorch?

  7. stewart pid says:

Reggie has a failure to launch with his blowtorch and is looking for some Viagra to help with the problem 😉

  8. Chewer says:

It looks to be an exciting adventure this season, with nothing to stand in the way.
    Full speed ahead 😉

Wait, wait, wait… isn’t Man-Made CO2 choking the atmosphere, and with its horrible insulating properties causing the earth to irreversibly heat uncontrollably – just like a greenhouse – a hothouse, the planet Venus?

Yes, it seems we passed the point of no return a couple of years ago. Next the acidified oceans will just boil away.

Now back to reality. All levity aside, Hansen, Holdren, Lenton, Serraze, et-al, and their ilk are either insane, or they are full-blown phonies and charlatans in it for the money.

So here we are, summer of 2014, plenty of Arctic ice, plenty of CO2. Still waiting for that tipping-point thing. You know, albedo feed-backs, big problem for polar bears, heat. Run away heat… Oh never mind.

Different prizes, different standards. The Nobel Peace Prize is a distinct and purely political award. The Nobel Science Prizes were originally intended, btw, to be awarded to young researchers to fund edgy research which challenged the consensus. They’re anything but, now.
