Age and hard experience taught me to not overestimate the effect of IQ on people’s ability to observe reality, recognize facts, draw conclusions and act intelligently.
Life in the “People’s Republic of Boulder” taught me that an inverse relationship is possible and common.
Common sense trumps very high IQs.
Many people in this country, especially those that do well on tests, are institutionalized people. That is they cannot function outside of the institutional structures of schools, government, and corporations. Or as I call them, ‘good at school’.
There are ‘good at school’ people in every field imaginable. They however lack any sort of ‘knack’ for anything. They are good at repeating what they are taught, taking tests, getting licenses. Independent thinking, observation, drawing conclusions, etc and so on is beyond their ability. IQ is measured by testing, so they can score well on it. In my career I’ve encountered many ‘good at school’ types. All fields with a significant education ticket to be punched have them in good number.
Now if it wasn’t for the Prussian school model these people may have been ok. Myself, I was damaged by the government school experience, but it didn’t destroy my ability to think differently. The population has also been intentionally dumbed down throught this process.
