Climate activists hate the US, they hate freedom, they hate free enterprise, they hate people in general, and mainly they despise themselves. There appears to be no limit to how big a lie they will manufacture to push their agenda.
It is beyond my comprehension why any US citizen would pander to them.
If they weren’t on government assistance they would have real life problems to deal with and wouldn’t even consider riding the bus to NYC. BTW all the proof anyone needs to know who those people really are and they have no concern about anything to do with climate or the environment is to check out the mess the slobs made during their march.
The simple answer is they are useful idiots. Many are very well educated and yet ignorant. They could probably list off 50 famous pseudo-intellectual activists that they believe in without question and yet not even know that our current quite minor cyclical warming is barely a blip on histories climate graph. The believe, it is a matter of faith, they were indoctrinated from kindergarten to post graduate by our school system and a left leaning press. The do not know what they do not know.
“Many are very well educated”
Perhaps they weren’t so “well educated” then?
Correct. I have friends who never finished junior high that could think circles around these people. Education=/=Knowledge. Once you learn to read you can self-educate. My husband’s grandfather had a fourth grade education and read his way through the entire library… after he learned to speak English.
Wasn’t it Mark Twain who said that “One could ruin a good education by getting too much schoolin’ “
Yep. Education =/= schooling. Warming a desk/seat under mandatory attendance means zip, zilch, nada in terms of what a person learns. Education is personal. You get as much or as little as you pursue.
The border between education and indoctrination is subtle. They are very educated, but perhaps not well.
Hey GoneWithTheWind! “Many are very well educated and yet ignorant.”
I am pretty sure I agree with what you mean — but I might phrase it “Many are very well credentialed and yet ignorant.”
I wish I could remember who said it so I could give credit where due, but I read a post that said (I paraphrase slightly), “Some time during the 1970s, universities realized that they could make large sums of money by giving unqualified students the illusion that they were educated.”
Just look at how many Ph.D climate scientists don’t know how to use significant figures.
70s? I thought that ‘innovation’ came in with mandatory ‘public’ schooling.
My guess is that a large majority of people that show up to protest for this stuff are garden variety ‘useful idiots’. It is a very small but vocal minority of true believers that you’re talking about.
The leaders are the ones that hate America, hate capitalism, want to put people in jail, etc. I watched a PBS documentary on the Earth Liberation Front. They interviewed all of the home-grown terrorists that were torching businesses and colleges over perceived environmental abuses. Most of them started out being pretty normal people, who started out with interest in a single issue, were then socialized into a group of friends, and became serial protestors for every issue under the sun. A tiny number of that group were further radicalized when they began to feel that their actions were fruitless, and began plotting terrorist attacks on businesses and schools.
You’re really dealing with a tiny fraction of a tiny fraction, but those people ARE the ones setting the agenda and leading the rest of the useful idiots around by the nose.
hmmm, I don’t know how much faith I have in a U.S.G.-funded broadcast special, KTM. My conservative ideology forces me to blanketly, unquestionably degrade anything stemming from the public sphere
Tony,
Good read on our opponents. If we do not understand our opponents we are doomed to continue jousting with shadows.
Our opponents (one manifestation of which is “Climate Activists”) are Politically Correct Progressives.
This is the PC-Progressive belief system:
1. Normal-America is irredeemably racist. Blacks and other minorities live a life of constant harassment and hopeless repression by Normal-Americans.
2. Normal-America is virulently sexist. Women live lives of desperate hopelessness. They are forced by the patriarchy to accept social and professional roles that demean and diminish them. Normal-Americans aggressively try to restrict women’s rights to kill fetuses.
3. Normal-America is homophobic. Christian haters thump Bibles in their quest to locate, persecute, prosecute and lynch fun-loving homosexuals, lesbians, transsexuals, and bi-sexuals.
4. Normal-America is stunningly xenophobic. Normal-Americans loathe foreigners. Normal-American society rejects all foreigners and views them as vile, dirty, stinking beasts with unintelligible accents.
5. Normal-America is graspingly imperialist. Normal-Americans seek to conquer, destroy and subjugate peace-loving native cultures in Africa, the Middle East, South America and Asia. America is built on a legacy of imperialist destruction of Native American and Hispanic cultures.
6. Normal-America is greedily capitalist. The American economy destroys poor people with angry demands that they must work. The economy is systematically manipulated by the 1% in order to subjugate the 99%. Capitalism rewards only the lucky few, while the masses suffer. Capitalism destroys the environment, nature, bunnies, polar bears, forests, water, and causes the Earth to have a fever.
These tenets are the core of PC-Prog politics. The beliefs are nearly religious. To be a member, one must never contradict these tenets (in public, or in privately recorded conversations.)
The corollary to the tenets of PC-Progressivism is the “Action Requirement.”
It is simple: Normal-America must be changed.
This is it. That is the entire belief system, and the action plan of our political opponents.
http://intelctweekly.blogspot.com/2014/07/politically-correct-progressive-belief.html
I agree with you but you left out the attractions that make PC – Progressivism so attractive.
Laziness, greed and self-importance.
PC – Progressives pander to those three traits.
Obama’s “You didn’t Build that” And Karl Marx “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need” are classics that appeal to the lazy and the greedy because it gives them ‘ownership’ they never earned and a license to steal from those who do produce.
Causes like Animal Rights or Earth First or Global Warming appeals to the self-important because it allows them to become big fish without actually having to work at it all it takes is a loud mouth. Just become outspoken about a cause and mindlessly mouth the slogans. Al Gore of course is a classic example and so is Obama.
If they didn’t have the backing of power and wealth they would be flipping burgers.
True capitalism, investing Your Wealth and labor to create more wealth takes ingenuity, perseverance, the ability and determination to continue doing something despite difficulties and just plain hard work. Spoiled rotten from the cradle PC-Progressives don’t have those traits. Heck I am surprised they managed to march a few blocks carrying a sign!
Gail,
You’ve got that right!
But you probably left out some of the traits the PC-Prog system panders to. How about all the 7 Deadly Sins?
You’ve gotta read Matt Briggs’ man-on-the-street report from the NYC Climate Chaos protests–he captures the PC-Progs’ utter foolishness perfectly.
http://wmbriggs.com/blog/?p=13644
The beauty of the operation that laid the foundations for the knaves marching in NYC last weekend was that it took into account the foibles of human nature. And even more, the foibles of Americans’ nature.
In addition to creating the hatred of Normal-America, the operation set-up the organizations that define “cool.” Once they realized how responsive Americans were to the “coolness” factor, organizations and events became the M.O. of the PC-Progs.
Notice in Briggs’s interviews how few of the marchers actually know what the issue is? Notice how common it is that they are in it, not to mince words, “for the chance to meet chicks.” [“Buddhism “was very sex positive, unlike Christianity” and that a lot of people came to Buddhist meetings “to meet girls.”]
It’s a darn-near unbeatable combination of message and coolness.
But we can beat ’em! Think positive!
William Briggs makes it pretty clear that most of these people are completely clueless and are only out to party and have fun with their buddies. [GIRLS!!!]
They have ZERO idea of what the scientific facts are and couldn’t care less. Even the leaders of each group didn’t have any clear idea of what the science is. They are just protesting to protest.
SHEEPLE in ever sense of the word. No wonder the leaders want to shut down the debate and muzzle the skeptics. On the other hand I doubt one in a thousand of those people would have any clue about what science is involved.
No wonder the comments by warmists in the MSM sound so clueless.
BTW, Rush Limbaugh had a program on Climate Change this afternoon. He munged up the science a little bit but not nearly as badly as Al Gore or this group. I was impressed that he had as much knowledge about the topic as he did.
Gail, are you saying that this is not science?
https://twitter.com/iowahawkblog/status/514145345765257217
Thank you, Kent, for your reminder that the real problem in totalitarian governments that use science as propaganda.
Consensus science has long been a tool of totalitarian governments. It re-emerged, after WWII, as an indication of the real winner of WWII. George Orwell reported this information in the book he started to write in 1946 – “Nineteen Eighty-Four.”
Thanks to 2009 Climategate emails – and incredulous official responses – we now know Stalin was victorious from WWII. Information was hidden from the public by a news black-out of CHAOS and FEAR of nuclear annihilation in Aug-Sept 1945 [1]
The UN was formed in Oct 1945 to take totalitarian control of science and society worldwide [2]
The primary goal was to save the world and it’s leaders from nuclear annihilation by forbidding public knowledge of the source of energy that destroyed Hiroshima [3].

When we admit the real Sun (above), we will also see that science, religion and spirituality are compatible:
The scientific Sun is the Creator, Destroyer and Sustainer of every atom, life and world in the Solar System, a volume of space greater than combined volumes of 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 Earths.
This fact was acknowledged by ritualistic worship & meditation at the crack of dawn in various religions throughout history and by the powerful rays of energy that extended outward from the core of the Sun on the National Flag of Japan prior to 1945.
For those who want an image of God, the neutron core of each star is like a nucleus in each of God’s living cells.
I have come to think that it is a lack of drama in their lives. People who like to watch things like Jerry Springer or even “the view”, need to spend some time working domestic violence calls or even writing parking tickets.
Makes me think a mandatory one year conscription into the army would be a good idea. With a second year for those who fail to pass muster….
I just turned 50, and if the most exciting thing that happens today is reading the funny papers, I’ll consider it a good day…
opps, forgot to check the “Notify me” box…
Heinlein’s suggestion was you must serve if you want to vote.
“Lack of drama” is one reason for gossip. “Lack of drama” is why soap operas became popular when radio was young and remained popular at the end of the 20th Century until the “reality show” replaced the soap opera. Drama has to be credible–sort of…
I did 27 years in America’s militaries over a 35 year period and saw other militaries up-close. I’d like to have an intelligent dialogue over conscription because one reason for the USSR’s collapse was its policy of universal conscription. Lost to history is the British Navy’s practice of impressment was part of the reason for the American Revolution.
http://usslave.blogspot.com/2012/06/press-gangs-and-british-naval.html
The Declaration of Independence also references “…He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands…”
Here’s another point against conscription: Universal Military Training used to be the darling of the Progressive Movement: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens%27_Military_Training_Camp
There are still “universal military training” acts proposed in Congress every decade–if not every year. The All Volunteer Army was pushed on America (the only military I knew, I missed being drafted by weeks but volunteered and was sworn in three days after my 18th birthday) by the political left in an effort to change the United States into a socialist republic. Backfired.
During the “pacifist” 1930’s FDR established the quasi-military CCC. “Service” by any other name…remember the “labor armies” of the Communist Manifesto and the many measures
There are many positives–but then mandatory church attendance would rankle many modern Americans. Compulsory education has resulted in the United States rating low compared to the “rest of the civilized/advanced world” in educational performance.
I object to compulsory sexual indoctrination–er, “education”–because driver’s education still makes the automobile the most lethal instrument devised by man.
As for Heinlein, I’m unsure of that man’s position. He was one of many Progressives I’d trust my life and country to, but in “Starship Troopers” his mouthpieces were anti-conscription. Johnny Rico’s family were strongly anti-military in the beginning of the book (the movie was PRO-conscription, leading me to wonder if they read the book)–so anti-military that they were against ALL “federal service.” Something like America in the Twenties…
Conscription itself, like compulsory education, may be neutral–it just depends upon who is in the driver’s seat. Right now, according to the DNC, the Democratic Party-controlled American compulsory education school bus is flying off the cliff with all tires flat and the engine missing and transmission fallen out–and it’s all the fault of those “teabagger Republican racists!” http://americaswire.org/drupal7/?q=content/educators-alarmed-black-latino-high-school-students-perform-levels-30-years-ago
Don’t forget that “climate deniers” (as opposed to genocide boosters) are “uneducated.”
That could mean that “education” (indoctrination, actually) is required to “believe” that 2+2=5
What do you think?
Hey au1corsair! There’s a lot of food for thought in your comment… And I may upset a few people here.
A nation that needs a military draft to fill its army has already lost either its ethical basis or its freedom. http://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/i-sing-olaf-glad-and-big
Many of us older commenters (guilty as charged!) bewail much of today’s society, but even so, the great bulk of Americans would gladly volunteer to fight against a real threat to family and friends. What people will NOT volunteer to fight, is a war that they see as against people who are no threat, or a war that they believe is only designed to make big profits for the few. After 9/11, volunteers flocked to join the military because they saw (rightly or wrongly) a real and tangible threat to their country; there was no draft needed. On a more basic level, whether you call it “conscription” or “draft” or “pressing into service” , what it really is, is slavery. When slavery becomes necessary to fight a war, either the population is unethical (because they will not willingly defend their families), or the war is unethical (and the population does not see it as justified).
As for compulsory education — I am reminded of a phrase I read: “Public school is twelve years of prison for the crime of being a child.”
About 2% of the soldiers that served the Union in the Civil War were conscripted by their states. Another 6% were paid substitutes for men conscripted.
over 50% of the men that saw service in the United States military in WW I were drafted.
66% of the men that served in the United States services in WW II were drafted.
Only 30% of the force was drafted for Vietnam and contrary to popular belief of of those men drafted only 38% served in theater.
Great comment, au1corsair.
Darius and Xerxes did not have a choice other than a conscript force. Given the size of the Persian army and navy, their results were underwhelming.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermopylae#mediaviewer/File:Molon_labe2_edit_crop.jpg
I do not think Heinlein was or is a Progressive. Starship troopers was probably born out of the draft you just missed (you probably missed it by a lot more as I was registered, but my number was 335, so I was never drafted). It was accepted back in those days. And it did take a republican to do away with it.
I was in when it went all volunteer and the change was quite astounding in the Army. I had CAT4s in my 91B combat medic AIT class. I wouldn’t let them put a band-aide on me even after the training. SPC-4s qualifying for food stamps.
About the very first major thing Reagan did after being sworn in was give the US Military an across the board 10% raise (Did not apply to highest ranks that were already at the cap.)
By the end of Reagan’s first term it was already becoming a different and better Army in a lot of ways. The drug users and problem children were being QMPed left and right. New equipment and larger training budgets. Much better quality recruits in the RA.
And for us in SF it was the difference between night and day.
The copyright date of Starship Troopers is 1959.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starship_Troopers
The Cold War peacetime draft was in effect from 1948 to 1975.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscription_in_the_United_States
I registered for the draft and didn’t yet have my draft card when I swore into the Marines three days after my 18th birthday–and the draft ended within six months. Call-ups were supposed to have ended in 1973 (IIRC) and the Democratic majority Congress fought ending the draft tooth and nail. President Carter re-instated draft registration with Executive Order 4771–I doubt that “war hawk” Republican presidents would have pulled off that feat without being savaged by the mainstream news media and members of Congress and the usual suspects in Hollywood and academia. Look at which party keeps calling for a return to the draft–and not just for military service but as “labor armies.”
One purpose of military conscription in Europe was (is?) managing unemployment levels by removing young men from the labor pool.
The first 10 numbers in 74 were still drafted. That was my year. So apparently democrats got their way. But that was right after they had gotten rid of Nixon, so they were feeling their oats.
Two Republican congressmen named Donald Rumsfeld and Richard Cheney played leading parts in the effort to establish a volunteer military.

There are a lot of self loathing people in the world, and some are in the US.
Yes, but all of them seem to live within 15 mile radius around me. From now on, when they bring up climate change I will blame our civilization’s anthropocentric point of view and ask them softly to see things from within the polar bears.

Half of them are using Obama’s navel as a periscope now, so it is just changing hosts.
You are exactly right: It Has Absolutely Nothing To Do With Polar Bears or Climate !
It is pure propaganda designed for totalitarian control of the public. Our the world social structure has been under attack since late August 1945. We just did not know it.
The Climategate emails that surfaced in late November 2009, and five years of government efforts to justify fraud as consensus science . . .
Opened my eyes to the reason for an unexplained “news black-out” in late August 1945, formation of the UN in late October 1945, and the promotion of FALSE consensus models of nuclei and stars in 1946:
Stalin, or a selfish alliance of “Better Red Than Dead” Bankers and Communists took totalitarian control of science and the world to save the world and themselves from nuclear annihilation by hiding the source of energy in cores of nuclei and stars.
http://orach24463.wordpress.com/2014/09/21/the-peoples-climate-march-is-not-about-saving-the-planet-it-is-about-power-to-the-elite-not-the-people/
“why any US citizen would pander to them.”
Maybe to not get arrested ?
+1, but OUCH!
Whenever I talk with so-called “Progressives” I always point out that their version of Kumbayah Earth is based on the premise that men with guns will arrest or kill anyone who refuses to follow their plans. Never, never, never let collectivists and totalitarians get away with pretending that they have any ethical high ground.
1794, the Whiskey Rebellion
http://www.mountvernon.org/research-collections/digital-encyclopedia/article/whiskey-rebellion/
Interesting that such an important event is never spoken of in school.
History is not and has not been taught well in public schools for some time now. Not taught well in some institutions of higher learning either. They generally do well with the classics but more contemporary American history is another story. If one doesn’t believe that then all they have to do is read some of crap some academics have published over the last few years on subjects from the Founders, to Lincoln, to the New Deal and WW II. They can’t even get the history of Reagan right. And it is all social/politically motivated. Sometimes it seems that many modern “historians” are in a contest to see who can spin American history the most to justify the progressive agenda. Even when they get caught red handed plagiarizing and lying, witness Ward Churchill who the left defended to the last when a court ruling finally took him down and even now gets face time in the media as if he has something to say worth listening to.
Michael Bellesiles, a history professor at Emory University got canned (forced to resign actually) for academic misconduct because he was unable to provide sources for his anti 2nd amendment activist book, ‘Arming America: The Origins of a National Gun Culture’ which claimed that early Americans were not armed nearly to the extent that established history claims. But he is now a Professor of History at Central Connecticut State University, New Britain, CT apparently.
Then there is Mann.
I remember it. When we discussed George Washington, this came up and it came up again when we discussed the history of Prohibition (before and after the amendments related to alcohol specifically).
OFF topic but please check it out.

Wow! Extraordinary paper if study (by people smarter than me!) shows it to be correct. Here is the money quote from the introduction:
“By knowing this the minimum uncertainty for every annual global mean temperature
should be expanded not only to the value described here i.e. with 95 % confidence
interval to ± 1.084 °C, but should be at least 3 to 5 times wider. Thus, the average
global temperature anomaly for the last 150 years is dissolved in a wide noisy
uncertainty band, which is much wider than the whole assumed variation of the 20
th century. Therefore every attempt to attribute any possible forcing to that variation remains scientific speculation.”
Steven (Tony) has been pointing out for years that the various pronouncements by the oh-so-respectable-climate-experts giving global temps to hundredths of a degree are pure fantasy. Let’s hope Limburg’s paper gets a bigger audience!
Jason, I have sent this to WUWT tips twice, but no response. The paper also refers to Anthony Watts work on temperature meter settings. So please consider to link it again to WUWT and everywhere else you can think of.
Thanks
Since the paper is issued by Germany’s EIKE, maybe it will appear in Pierre Gosselin’s No Tricks Zone.
I love it when these green morons talk about all the jobs created by “going green”. Yes, there are jobs created, all subsidized at Government (our) expense. Without taxpayer support, or more accurately red ink support, there would be no green jobs to speak of. When the pyramid scheme of red ink inevitably collapses, there will be few jobs of any kind, let alone green jobs.
Here is your REAL ‘Green Jobs’ if Obummer and the EPA get their way.

Climate is simply their preferred vehicle of choice to drive their socialist / progressive agenda.
It’s about the only thing in climate change that IS human-driven.

1814
British, under General Ross.
But you’re correct about the ;>( part.
Silly arrogance of the Brits to push that war with the US at a time when they really didn’t need any more on their plate. It was folly for them to think they could subdue the US and had similarities to the Revolution in the way it played out. They could take the capital but they couldn’t win. They could try and blockade the ports but they couldn’t seal them all and the Navy and privateers cost them more than it did the Yanks. In the end the final result was to cause the US Navy to grow into a still small but real threat to their near total dominance of the sea ways and unify the population of their former colonies in ways the Revolution hadn’t.
Sorry Lorne, it do not make us “yanks mad”. And unfortunately, the voters are NOT doing it.
perhaps you can stage a re-enactment?
I may have misunderstood Lorne, but I think his final point was not our voters physically burning DC, but that they are putting metaphorical arsonists into the halls of government. (?)
If that is his point, then he is correct.
That was my reading of Lorne’s shortcut. He left out that the “Yanks” had to be “mad” to do it.
Not being P/C but I seen Charcoal walk out of the Whitehouse ;>)
The 47% who can’t think for themselves comes to mind.
Tony,
Ever hear the “birds of a feather stick together” saying? People like hanging around those who validate their world view. I am an amateur Second World War historian and the “political left” is very hard to distinguish from Adolf Hitler’s party: same racism, same anti-religion, same anti-capitalism, same socialism, same environmentalism, same population reduction policies, same slave labor plans…except in English instead of German.
The most successful anti-tobacco program was Nazi Germany. Nazis also preached animal rights (unless those animals were Jews or Gypsies or similar), vegetarianism, alcohol prohibition, and “everything belongs to the Volk.”
How about them Thirties echoes?
Same insights into Jews and Judaism:
OUCH!
And that is from a jew paid by a jewish banker. (Both Marx senior and Leon Phillips left the Jewish religion for political reasons but Phillip’s sister, Karl Marx mother did not.)
Gail, you know I don’t use /sarc tags and I don’t much like ironic usage quotation marks around words like “insights” if I think I can do without them.
The Marx family was badly screwed up but I’m not good at psychoanalysis. I am pointing out Messrs. Marx and Schicklgruber based their life work on a similar set of beliefs. You probably know that it wasn’t just Marx and only the Jews. Engels was a profound ethnic planner, too. He and Marx shared “insights” into the nature and historical role of blacks, Slavs, Irish and other such “ethnic trash” (Völkerabfall).
Check out Robert Tracinski’s take. He writes:
You can see how this [global warming] brings order and balance back to the left’s universe. Their visceral reaction against capitalism is validated on the deepest, most profound level.
