New York Times Says That Alaska Will Soon Be Like Florida

“If you do not like it hot and do not want to be hit by a hurricane, the options of where to go are very limited,” said Camilo Mora, a geography professor at the University of Hawaii and lead author of a paper published in Nature last year predicting that unprecedented high temperatures will become the norm worldwide by 2047.

“The best place really is Alaska,” he added. “Alaska is going to be the next Florida by the end of the century.

There appears to be a competition going on for who can be the world’s stupidest academic and newspaper.

    A geologist?
    Wow….

  2. alan says:

What absolute rubbish, but the same old story, just pushed out a few years more so he won’t have to face the truth.

How do they get stuff like this published – If I just made shit up and sent it to a journal, would it get in the paper?

    • rishrac says:

Yes, put some letters at the end of your name and have it conform to a scare article. For example, global warming could make Hawaii to hot to live in and they might have to import or make from fresh water from sea water because there could be a lack of rain. I’m warning you!!

  3. au1corsair says:

Is this the start of a land rush like Florida had during the 1890’s and 1920’s and 1950’s and 1960’s…..

    Scam on!

More modeling. In 2047, it wiil become 2087, assuming they haven’t reverted back to global cooling. Unfortunately, a lot of ignorant people will believe them and wreck their lives. This is the Age of the Fearful and Gullible. Must be a miserable way to live, worrying about the weather unless you are one of the chosen ones, like Leo Decaprio who protests the peons having too much between time smoozing with girls on his yacht.

  5. Eliza says:

Can anyone here correlate antarctic temperatures for the past years with sea ice extent ie rawdata with raw data(not anomalies)? Using data since it was measured of course maybe 10-15 years ago?

  6. tomwys1 says:

Good grief: It just shows how the NYT is wrapped up in the UN’s Climate Week. Amazing transparency!!!

  7. Andy Oz says:

The UN’s Christiana Fugueres (an economist from Costa Rica) wants Australia to cease mining coal altogether. The arrogance is amazing.
    http://www.abc.net.au/am/content/2014/s4092775.htm

Australia produces about 5% of the world annual production 400 Mtpa out of 7500 Mtpa.
China produces 3,000 Mtpa. I’m sure China will cease coal mining altogether.
As will India (700 Mtpa) and Indonesia (300 Mtpa). NOT.

I find it unbelievable that the UN is getting involved in legal trade between sovereign countries. How about they stop arms shipments to the world, let alone terrorists? Or land mines? That will save many lives. The last woman to demand the banning land mines worldwide was killed in a Paris underpass, so I suppose Figueres knows its not safe to criticise the illegal armaments industry. Absolute crackpots.

This week at the Royal Society

    https://royalsociety.org/events/2014/arctic-sea-ice/

“Arctic sea ice reduction: the evidence, models, and global impacts”

    Wonder if it’s peer reviewed???

  9. David says:

That will not be the first time. Alligator bone were found in alaska. So it was tropical once. History repeats

  10. Where did the good Prof. get the information before spouting such nonsensical alarm-ism.
Doesn’t fit with no warming for the past 17 years, and cooling from 1940s to 1970s despite rising CO2. Warmer for first Millennium etc. etc.
It does demonstrate that contrived panic trumps scientific methodology but it is well tailored for getting research grants and yes, I am a geologist.

  11. Derron says:

“If you do not like it hot and do not want to be hit by a hurricane, the options of where to go are very limited,” —– What???? Is Globull Warming causing an outburst of inland hurricanes all of the sudden?

    • emsnews says:

Yes, August was supposed to be the warmest, ever, in all history this year!

So…no hurricanes will be the norm if this is true….except it is totally false. Typical of global cooling, hurricanes hardly happen in Hampshire as My Fair Lady exclaims.

    • Yep… NO HURRICANES to report… so they had to come up with something!

“August 2014 hottest month ever….” total shit… data manipulation and lots of infilling… as Steven pointed out on here..

  12. We are surrounded by knuckleheads and left wing loons these days…

    • Gail Combs says:

We are surrounded by Con Men, Thieves, Scoundrels and other predators and the parasites who are idiotic enough to believe they will be better off if they support them.

George Bernard Shaw explained the process>>>>>
      DAVID, are you PAYING ATTENTION?
      First:
“A government with the policy to rob Peter to pay Paul can be assured of the support of Paul.”

Then once the Fabian Socialists (aka Progressives) are in complete control of the government the second phase is put in place.

“Under Socialism, you would not be allowed to be poor. You would be forcibly fed, clothed, lodged, taught, and employed whether you liked it or not. If it were discovered that you had not character and industry enough to be worth all this trouble, you might possibly be executed in a kindly manner; but whilst you were permitted to live, you would have to live well.”

George Bernard Shaw: The Intelligent Woman’s Guide to Socialism and Capitalism, 1928, pg. 470)

“The moment we face it frankly we are driven to the conclusion that the community has a right to put a price on the right to live in it … If people are fit to live, let them live under decent human conditions. If they are not fit to live, kill them in a decent human way. Is it any wonder that some of us are driven to prescribe the lethal chamber as the solution for the hard cases which are at present made the excuse for dragging all the other cases down to their level, and the only solution that will create a sense of full social responsibility in modern populations?”

Source: George Bernard Shaw, Prefaces (London: Constable and Co., 1934), p. 296.

Sure sounds a lot like slavery doesn’t it David?
John Holdren, Obama’s Science Czar along with Ehrlich and Anne H. Ehrlich (stanford Univ) wrote something similar

“The fetus, given the opportunity to develop properly before birth, and given the essential early socializing experiences and sufficient nourishing food during the crucial early years after birth, will ultimately develop into a human being. Where any of these essential elements is lacking, the resultant individual will be deficient in some respect.”

Source: Human Ecology: Problems and Solutions ( San Francisco: W.H. Freeman, 1973 ), p. 235.

Note: Another co-founder of the Fabian Society H.G. Wells and a fellow Fabian Bertrand Russell set up Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs. Holdren chaired the Pugwash Conferences’ executive committee from 1987 to 1997.

      Shaw also said:
“Socialism is the same as Communism, only better English.”

Shaw was a co-founder of the Fabian Socialists and the London School of Economics that trains world leaders in politics, industry and banking. The goal is to exterminate the middle class and restore universal serfdom. “Communism” and “Socialism” are just words used to cover up the true goal so the peasants do not fight their future enslavement. (aka Agenda 21)

Anthony Giddens, the former director of the LSE, was the creator of the ‘Third Way’ promoted by both Tony Blair and Bill Clinton. Giddens created another version of Fascism, a cross between the welfare state and corporate-government collusion. “This policy is being put into effect by governments all across the world.”

The Fabian Wolf hiding under a socialist sheepskin is depicted in the stain glass window unveiled by Tony Blair in 2003 at the London School of Economics. The fact the Elite no longer hide their wish for a world government or the stain glass window design by George Bernard Shaw should scare the dickens out of any sane person.

I say send them up there! Sell all the alarmist ocean front property in Alaska. Alaska can use the population, and we can use the peace when they all freeze to death.

The New York Times article links to a blog by Cliff Mass. http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2014/07/will-pacific-northwest-be-climate.html Go there if you are yearning for an entertaining bit of bad-science-we’re-all-going-to-die-blogging. One of the sceptical comments there struck me as worth repeating.

Frank Burris at August 8, 2014 at 9:44 AM said…
“It cannot be deniers that are the problem. We live in a democracy, and if 90+% (according to the news media) of all scientist now believe that humans cause or significantly contribute to global warming, why hasn’t any significant progress been made to decrease carbon dioxide release or levels in the atmosphere? With that level of support, we have enough scientific horsepower in the “believers” that we should be well along on our path toward solving the issue. No, the problem is not deniers, the problem is hypocritical “believers”. I’ll bet you even drove your car to work this morning.”

Ha! I need to remember that one! “If you CAGW folks are such a huge majority, why haven’t you hypocrites stopped pumping out CO2 yet?”

    • Gail Combs says:

Yes do remember that one. The Progressives hate it when you reveal their hypocrisy and the fawning idiots laugh at them.

      • rah says:

I tried something similar with the loons a long time ago concerning their hypocrisy on oil. Told them they all need to recycle their computers and never buy a new one since much of the plastic is made with petroleum products. Response, as usual with things like that, was crickets.

    • DedaEda says:

Or give a shining example by not exhaling?

      • mjc says:

My in-laws lived on river front property in California. The place was from, the 1960s onward, a spot where hippies and other ‘counter-culture’ types would spend time. The cluelessness of those people knew no bounds…like the one woman who raged on about the evils of eating meat, while decked out in several thousand dollars worth of leather (motorcycle leathers, designer boots, backpack, etc…all leather). Or the idiot going on about over population, while hiding out there from the three separate women, trying to get child support payments from him for 5 children…

And yes, it was often fun to pull the ‘you first’ argument on them and watch them want to crawl into a hole and pull it closed after themselves in their attempts to not actually embarrass themselves any more.

  15. Andy DC says:

When you see a huge migration from Florida back to New York and New England, then you can start taking global warming seriously. Absolutely no sign of that any time soon.
