The 97% Consensus Forgot To Show Up

Yesterday’s march of politicians, actors, communists, and other fellow travelers was conspicuously absent of the 97% consensus of imaginary scientists which form the basis of their folklore.

Along with a whole bunch of other unpaid people.

  2. omanuel says:

They are justifiably embarrassed by the absurdity of the propaganda campaign they themselves helped promote after 1945 through blind adherence to false, Standard Models of stars and nuclei.

  3. Keitho says:

Sociology masquerading as science. The B-Ark people out in droves.

  4. BobW in NC says:

The 97% is still alive and well…witness this piece from Money Watch, written by Paul
    B. Farrell (a “Mutual funds columnist”), who is obviously a real scientist /sarc/. He even uses the ad hominem “Climate Science Deniers,” so he must be one we should listen to. His piece: “This 1 chart exposes climate-science deniers as frauds ” Lede: “97% of 2,500 UN climate scientists agree, humans cause global warming”

    • John F. Hultquist says:

Farrell exhibits negative knowledge about climate. There must be an unknown connection to someone he wants to please – perhaps a clueless daughter?
I’m not sure he knows anything about money, investing, and mutual funds.
I stopped reading his column – and won’t click for that one either.

    • Andy DC says:

Most skeptics don’t disagree that there has been a degree or so of warming since 1880 and we don’t disagree that a fraction of that could be Mann made. The real question is whether it is a “crisis” or outside the range of natural variability and the answer at this point clearly seems to be “no”.

That is why the 97% argument is a straw man.

    • Gail Combs says:

      “97% of 2,500 UN climate scientists” ????
I think he is a wee bit out of date. The UN IPCC has been losing scientists in droves. I think the last number I read for the fifth assessment report was about 400.

This is from the 4th assessment report:

The IPCC can’t count its “expert scientists”: – Author and reviewer numbers are wrong

How many times have you heard or read words to the effect that 4000 scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change (IPCC) supported the claims about a significant human influence on climate? I think I’ve seen it on television, radio and the Internet and I know that politicians at national levels have quoted such figures. There’s no question whatsoever. It’s utterly wrong. In fact, once the duplicated names are removed that number falls below 2,900 and if we only want those who explicitly supported the claims it falls to only about 60. So how does 4,000 become 60 and were they all qualified and credible scientists? Let’s take a closer look at the real numbers….

      B. Farrell is probably involved with peddling so-called “green” investments and/or some kind of carbon trading scheme.

  5. R. Hunter says:

This outpouring of support was probably orchestrated by the White House with the same people who organized the march against the 1 percent. The timing says it all. Funny. How people who love private jets and limos can hate carbon so much.

  6. jlc says:

All it will take is a winter this year in the Northern Hemisphere like that of 1978-1979 and the public will abandon the climate change religion en masse – the same way that a couple of beheading videos have caused the public to embrace a new Middle Eastern war.

    • Gail Combs says:

A 1978-1979 winter plus blackouts/brownout because of a compromised power grid.

Then add in astronomical energy bills.

    • stpaulchuck says:

The Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting just such a nasty winter.

Fortunately by New Year’s Day I’ll be in the Philippines with my zoris up on the veranda rail drinking ice cold San Miguel Lite and enjoying the breeze off the ocean.

  7. Streetcred says:

NYC population ~8,405,837; Grub turnout ~400,000 = ~4%. Looks like they have as much influence as that 4% of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Yes, simply a confab of the clueless and old burnt-out communists, along with a few paid astroturfers.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2014/09/22/reason-magazine-actually-asked-climate-protesters-what-they-want-to-do-and-its-hilarious/

One protester said his “movement” was preparing to mount a “resistance” and lead an “actual revolution” that would lead to a “whole new society.” … Sounds familiar. What kind of new society, Foster pressed. A “socialist” one, the protester replied.

One relatively older rally attendee – most of the protesters Foster spoke with were silver-haired – insisted that hydraulic fracturing, a process which was proven safe again at the conclusion of a study funded by National Science Foundation and Duke University study, should be criminalized.

“Capitalism destroys the planet,” one large banner promoted by representatives with RevCom.us read. “We need revolution. Nothing less!”

“We live in a grotesque era where we have everything we want right now,” one protester told Foster, graciously packaging her entire movement up in one self-hating nutshell.

Briggs went, he lives in NY:

The marchers were simply clueless idiots on holiday.

    • Gail Combs says:

Take away ALL the advantages an oil/CO2 based economy provides these idiots and watch them shriek. Or better yet just ship them all to that ‘Carbon Free’ Socialist Paradise, North Korea. I am sure they could use a new bunch of healthy well fed slaves and a few licks of the lash should have them working energetically.

    • stpaulchuck says:

“We live in a grotesque era where we have everything we want right now, …” and this is bad…??? I get headaches trying to follow the pretzel logic of these clowns.

  10. Robert Austin says:

Scottish journalist Charles Mackay wrote about this behavior in his 1842 classic, “Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds”

  11. 0.04% of the people at this rally ever took a science course in their lives, and of the ones that did, 97% of them failed it.

    • Jason Calley says:

You have hit a personal nerve with that! One of the things that puts my teeth on edge is the lack of science among the CAGW crowd. I have loved and studied science since… well, since as far back as I can remember. Having these CAGW “ignorami” condescendingly tell me that I “just have not been educated in the science” is a level of irony that they will never understand.

  12. Fox From Melbourne says:

Hi everyone I’m just re-posting something I posted on Joannenova.com.au about that Climate Charge March. The weather details are correct for Melbourne Victoria Australia. I both was A/ was there and B/ lived though it and C/ Double checked it to be shore. I know I’m obviously not a Climate Scientist because I check my figures and they weren’t not made up. I know its a bit of topic but I’m just putting it out there for discussion.

“Lets play devils advocate for a minute. Lets say that these poor miss guided people at these Climate marches are right for once in their miserably lives and that the climates going to warm up by 2-3 degrees C. Lets just say that for a minute, it goes with out saying that thing at sometime in the future then the climate forecasts will then became the weather some day then won’t it. Well what would that look like then? A daily temperature raise of a 2-3 degrees C and we’re all going to die and the world will come to a end or some thing right? Well the global mean temperature is 14 degrees C and in Melbourne (Victoria) on the day of the Climate March it was 17.5 to 18 degrees C that’s 3.5 to 4 degrees of warning over global mean temperatures isn’t it. Monday the temperature in Melbourne was 24 degrees C and today its 26 degrees C. So isn’t that the same as a climate change of 3.5 to 4 degrees on Sunday and an 10 degree Climate Change yesterday and a 12 degree climate Change today right now, isn’t. When that point in the future is reached when the Climate Change forecast become the then weather isn’t that actually what its going to look like? Well isn’t it?
Question then how many of these protestors dyed, did the Polar Ice Caps melt and flood Melbourne did the sky fall in on us some time during this protest or in the last couple of day’s. I didn’t hear about it did any of you? Has the world ended and some one forgot to tell us please anyone that was in that protest please tell us I’m shore we all would like to know.
    REALITY CHECK
Its been both warmer in the past and cooler and when it was warm we as a topical species we did well from it and suffered when it was colder the history books have spoken and as for Co2 levels well lets see for the last 5-600 million years for 85 percent of the time Co2 levels have been over 1000 ppm and for 66 percent of that same time period its been over 2000 ppm. The Dinosaurs are also proof that life isn’t going to be wiped out and the world will come to a end if Co2 level double form pre-industrial levels why you ask, well they lived very well for themselves in a world of 2200 to 2400 pmm Co2 with a mean temperature that was only 2 degrees warmer than our current mean temperature of 14 degrees C.
Its safe to say no one dyed in the protest march on Sunday from Climate Change and our climate is use to a hole lot more Co2 than we have now. Isn’t it.”

Steven just how many protestor’s dyed from Climate Change during the protest’s over there in the U.S.A. or anywhere else by the way?

  13. stpaulchuck says:

what a marvelous point!! If these intellectuals were truly convinced of their predictions and their science they’d be worshiped at these parades. Instead we get Follywood mooks prancing and preening to display their concern (while getting face time and headlines).
