  1. ACR says:

That has to be an editing error at the newspaper. Right?

  2. Ernest Bush says:

Its more like somebody has invented a sensational headline and first paragraph without bothering to fact check.

  3. SMS says:

Even if it had been 40 meters (which it couldn’t have been) the sea level rise created by the melting ice would have been nil. The reason that there are so many egregious errors in the media is that those reporting on the subject have no knowledge of the subject. This creates a huge opening for bias in the journalists. We see a lot of bias in the media because they are too stupid and lazy to actually learn what the issues are. They instead write a column based on what they think is happening and not what is really happening and then the erroneous data is filtered down to those who are also too dumb or lazy to do a proper investigation. The shame of it all is that anyone can find out more facts and data by using the internet than was possible 25 years ago. They just have to want to know what those facts are and then start doing a search.

There are many more alarmists who become skeptics than skeptics who become alarmists. The conversion process from alarmist to skeptic involves becoming informed.

“…There are many more alarmists who become skeptics than skeptics who become alarmists. The conversion process from alarmist to skeptic involves becoming informed.”

You forgot the rest of the thought.

The conversion process from skeptic to alarmist involves MONEY!

      • SMS says:

Thank you Gail, that does complete the thought.

        • Gail Combs says:

No way a scientist or informed layman could look at all the data Steve and others have amassed and convert from skeptic to alarmist using the scientific method. That leaves threats, money or politics (the same as money)

        • rah says:

I’m not an “informed” layman really. Just a dumbass truck driver that can tell when someones pissing down my back and telling me it’s raining.

  4. KTM says:

That’s a lot of ice melt, but what to you expect when the interior of the earth is several million degrees?

    • Jon Lonergan says:

Exactly! It’s this heat which agitates humankind which then gets more active since they can’t sit/stand still due to that heat and they do more industry and put out more industrial CO2 thus warming the atmosphere πŸ™‚

  5. inMAGICn says:

    Sure it wasn’t the Guardian?

    • Gail Combs says:

The National Enquirer instead of Philippine Daily Inquirer?

NAH, the National Enquirer does better writing than that.

  6. David, UK says:

Journalist must have meant to have said 40 millimetres, surely. Not even an alarmist scientist would claim 40 metres.

  7. gofer says:

The WWF keeps the lie going. Latest appeal:

“As their sea ice homes shrink from climate change, skinnier and hungrier polar bears are struggling to survive. Habitat loss is one of the greatest threats to polar bears and to many other species.

For as little as $0.30 a day, you can help protect wildlife and their habitats.”

And help pay the $500,000 salaries.

That article is gold! This is an email I sent to Johnathan Lash.
    Hello Mr Lash,

I just happened to come across some or your comments from Davos back in 2005 in the Philippine Daily. As the head of WRI I find it interesting you stated the “Arctic” ice sheet had lost 40 meters of of thickness. Seeing how the Arctic ice “cap” at it’s thickest is 5-10meters (with ridges up to 20meters) that would be remarkable.

And your statement concerning the loss of the Cod fishery to warming waters and acidification is willfully ignorant* of the actual cause of the collapse from overfishing. Per NOAA ” heavy fishing throughout the latter part of the 20th century, U.S. stocks of Atlantic cod came close to commercial collapse in the mid-1990s. Under strict rebuilding plans that limit harvest, these Atlantic cod stocks are slowly rebuilding.”

It makes me doubt the value of an Ivy league education when an highly educated person such as you could be so oblivious to geography and history.

*Willful ignorance is the state and practice of ignoring any sensory input that appears to contradict one’s inner model of reality. At heart, it is almost certainly driven by confirmation bias.
