The Biden administration has erased all the pre-1983 fire data from the National Interagency Fire Center website, but the data is preserved by the US Forest Service, the US Census Bureau and The Clinton White House. Biden will have to work harder to rewrite America’s history.

    Your first plot there is a wonderful find. Annual damage has fallen by more than 80% since its peak in about 1930. Even people who hate graphs should surely manage to see the message. If they actually wished to see.

    As history is erased, adjusted and manipulated, present day statistics get amped in any direction deemed useful. My own state’s Department of Natural Resources now include homeless camp fires in Seattle parks or freeway landscape areas as part of their statistics* on wildfires. (Seattle Fire Dept response code “Encampment Fire.”) I can assure you that the camps are indeed wild lands, just not in a good way.

    * Reporting minimum is one-tenth of one acre.
