The closest active USHCN station to Grand Rapids is at Alma which recorded it’s hottest temperature of 108F on July 14, 1936. Alma hasn’t been over 100F since 2001.

Alma has recorded 1,751 days over 90F since 1887, 74% of which occurred before 1980.

Summer afternoon temperatures have also plummeted in Indiana and Tennessee.

If it wasn’t for you, Tony, we’d never know it. Thanks!!!

    “…which recorded it’s hottest temperature…”

Should be “its” in the phrase above. You want the possessive pronoun, not the contraction of “it is”.

This mistake is made repeatedly on this blog (in addition to incorrect plurals).

Your use of ( ) should be considered incorrect, but what has any of that have to do with the topic at hand?

At least you know your English, which puts you above most kids that graduate from Harvard today. I’ve misused “it’s” for “its”, myself, but most people understood me. What I can’t understand is: “Go slow.” How do I go slow? This car is slow; this horse is slow; I am slow. But how do I go slow? I very well can go slowly, though. You even see actors almost speak correctly (or correct in their way of thinking) and then stop themselves and say it wrongly (or wrong in their way of thinking). The substitution of adjectives for adverbs is just another form of mental laziness.

I can attest to the cooler summers in Tennessee, and that despite the intentional urban heat island effect at Memphis International Airport. Even the average fifth grader could figure out the placement of the thermometer is corrupt. That data should be thrown out in its entirety. The way Mann, NOAA, NASA are massaging the cooler readings upward to match the corrupt data is exactly backwards from the way they are doing it.
Placing thermometers by the runway of busiest airport in the world at night is a joke, and results in readings 6 to 11 degrees warmer than the surrounding area, even the urban ones on clear calm night.
The entire data set should be thrown out in its entirety
