No exaggeration on the rains. Yesterday Aug 12, I had the opportunity to drive from the southwest corner of Colorado down into Arizona across the Navajo Nation and then southwest of Interstate 40, continuing to the Phoenix metro area where the northeast valley section had just experienced a 3″ downpour earlier in the afternoon. The span from Canyon de Chelly National Monument all the way to the pine forests made famous by the 2002 Rodeo-Chediski fire was the greenest I’d ever seen, and I’ve traveled that length on many occasions ever since the 1990s.
