My Father attended a 1972 Club of Rome conference, he was highly sceptical of their limits to growth projections. He was convinced that through innovation we would increase food production, use resources and energy more efficiently, and that we wouldn’t run out of fossil fuels for a very long time. Either that, or when the gov cancelled the UK rocket program and he thumped his boss’s desk and threatened to defect to Russia, is probably why he didn’t get a Knighthood.

Well your father was right. The Club of Rome and John Ehrlich were early 70s late 60s, saying oil was depleted. If they had any sense at all, they would have looked at the CO2 in the atmosphere, and seen that it wasn’t anywhere near as high as it was 500 million years ago, therefore we could not be anywhere near the end of fossil fuels.
Today we are rolling in oil, maybe 2.5 x the population of the late 60s are living longer, eating better, staying warmer, enjoying life better than in 1960.
