1971 – World’s Top Climate Scientists Said Fossil Fuels Would Cause An Ice Age By 2020

In 1971, the world’s top climate scientists Schneider, Hansen and Rasool predicted that burning fossil fuels would trigger an ice age. They also determined that CO2 was nothing to worry about.

U.S. Scientist Sees New Ice Age Coming

A few years later they realized that there was much more research money available for global warming, so they changed their scientific judgment to say the exact opposite of what they said in 1971.

    Un-bee-leave-able…

He was right for the wrong reason. Our sun has gone into hibernation, and a recent paper by some Norwegians confirms we have already started what may be the next little ice age. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1364682612000417

… they realized that there was much more research money available for global warming …

That tactical switch worked extremely well but some of them may wonder now if it wasn’t a strategic blunder …

That assumes they’re in it to be right versus just piling away the cash. Only a handful of those who benefit financially pop their heads up. The rest can just follow the gravy train wherever it goes.

I keep seeing Alarmists say “But we are so much smarter now.”
    Yeah………right.

Rasool S I, Schneider S H 1971: Atmospheric carbon dioxide and aerosols: Effects of large increases on global climate. Science 171 138-141 doi:10.1123/science.173.3992.138

Before any nice soul says it was just journalistic fantasy

Excellent record keeping!, Keep it up. This is unassailable stuff, Undisputable! You win hands down. Its the only thing apart from very expensive legal action that deters these AGW crazzies. LOL

From the Schneider & Rasool paper:

We report here on the first results of a calculation in which separate estimates were made of the effects on global temperature of large increases in the amount of CO2 and dust in the atmosphere. It is found that even an increase by a factor of 8 in the amount of CO2, which is highly unlikely in the next several thousand years, will produce an increase in the surface temperature of less than 2 deg. K.

Yet we are continuously told that the science of CO2 greenhouse warming has been settled for 150 years…

  8. Phil Jones says:

Yea…. I’m beginning to wonder if this needs some legal action…

Especially all this data manipulation … Legislation, Politics, Media and Education are all solidly pushing the Alarmist agenda forward… See the recent EPA Regulations… Meanwhile this overreaction is affecting how we live and our pocketbooks… More and more every month.

Monckton tried a suit against the Al Gore movie… Had moderate success… Someone could sue on a variety of counts based on the ClimateGate emails…

After 27 days trekking across Greenland’s vast ice sheet, members of the Seven Continents Exploration Club (KE7B) have completed their journey and returned home.

When they arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia, friends and family members were waiting to welcome them back.

Team leader Yanizam Mohamad Supiah described the extreme cold, which plummeted to as low as -35C at times, as being among the toughest challenges they had to face. He thanked God that they managed to complete the journey earlier than the 35 days they had expected it to take.

Amusing. In 1971, “top climate scientists” were screaming about a coming ice age and that CO2 was nothing to worry about, then, suddenly they were all about the warming. And the name James Hanson appears in both camps…
