Pacific islands growing, not sinking
Climate scientists have expressed surprise at findings that many low-lying Pacific islands are growing, not sinking.
Islands in Tuvalu, Kiribati and the Federated States of Micronesia are among those which have grown, largely due to coral debris, land reclamation and sediment.
The findings, published in the journal Global and Planetary Change, were gathered by comparing changes to 27 Pacific islands over the last 20 to 60 years using historical aerial photos and satellite images.
Auckland University’s Associate Professor Paul Kench, a member of the team of scientists, says the results challenge the view that Pacific islands are sinking due to rising sea levels associated with climate change.
“Eighty per cent of the islands we’ve looked at have either remained about the same or, in fact, gotten larger,” he says.
“Some of those islands have gotten dramatically larger, by 20% or 30%.

Twenty-five years ago, the UN announced that we had until the year 2000 to save these islands
The 3 Maldive Tide gauges with data from 1989 to 2001 say:
Gan II 3.0 mm/yr
Male B 3.7 mm/yr
Hani- -1.1 mm/yr
That’s right, one has a negative rate over a span of 10 years

Steve – you gotta stop calling these people scientists. They’re nothing of the sort.
Hey! Maybe the forgot say the sea ain’t rising LOL
No no no! If the islands keep growing they will tip over and displace more water to flood the West Coast. I heard it from Congress, so it must be true.
They will now say, global warming is causing the seas evaporate and is exposing more and more of these islands as the seas shrink.

What really stands out for me is this quote:
“Governments have a 10-year window of opportunity”
Ka-ching!
Another of many deceased alarmist poster children. But they still blather on, even when they are totally wrong.
Seems to me they were talking about a 10 year window of opportunity 10 years ago!
Yeah, 10 yrs ago, 2004, they were saying that those islands would be keeping company with Atlantis by now. Funny, how they are still around…and growing.
Sea levels have been rising for centuries, if not millenia. Just more lies from the crowd that lies for billions of taxpayer $$$$$$$$$.
12 millenia or so…
As evidenced by the following quotes, they still have to genuflect to the catastropist message or face savage attacks from the usual suspects.
How can a scientist be “surprised” by results? Doesn’t that just scream bias? You get results and then come to a conclusion… that is what scientists do.
Obviously no one got around to explaining to the coral about acid oceans and the death of all sea life. No one got around to explaining to the ocean either for that matter. Looks like more Carbon dissolved in the water results in more Carbon being available to build shells and coral. Common sense wins again!
The parrot fish and the coral, unless killed off, will keep the islands “just right” for whatever level the sea chooses.
Dr. Brown was right after all. Global warming is in reverse and islands are safe.
The reason the Maldives have been dropped from media propaganda talking points, like the Arctic. Never mind.
Today’s News from your major State Run Media outlet: The Antarctic is melting at a phenomenal rate! so much that the extreme cold temperatures can not stop it. The BS is getting deeper by the hour, not the day but the hour….
Combined with the increased growth from CO2, if we were able to spread that BS on fields, we’d have to start shipping the excess produced to Mars, to be able to store all the bumper crops.
ROTFL
The BS is piled so high it is getting difficult to breath
