My life as a communist actually began without me knowing it, on Friday evening, when Glenn Beck spent his program explaining about a “communistic” conspiracy that included 10 groups in America. One was 350.org, a global campaign to fight climate change that I helped found three years ago. He even put our logo up on his whiteboard – and next to it a hammer and sickle.
Since I don’t actually watch Mr. Beck, I didn’t know about it until e-mails began to arrive, informing me that indeed I was a communist. My first reaction was: I’m not a communist. I’m a Methodist……….

Warming of the oceans is cyclical by nature. When the AMO flips in a few years the trend will reverse. Also note that cycles between the Atlantic and pacific are not always in sync. Hurricanes are also very effective in removing heat, but weather patterns sometimes does not allow for formation of hurricanes. But sooner or later nature wins, and the reversal of wind and ocean patterns change as it has always done. The warmest ocean ever talk, only means warmest during the satellite era. Ships records from pre satellite era reveal much warmer ocean temperatures even in the past. Currently, Antarctic sea ice is at record level, and the arctic ice is at an eight year high. The ocean in the southern oceans have cooled a tad in the last 30 years, and increasing ice in the arctic May signal a change in the northern oceans.
But even if so, proves nothing as to the cause of such heat rise. The oceans have warmed and cooled in the past.

The “global warming is hiding in the ocean” meme is one of the best (at least as far as propaganda goes)! Look at the chart you linked to. Notice that it is NOT showing temperature; instead it is showing joules. Isn’t that odd? Don’t you wonder WHY they would show joules instead of degrees Celsius? After all, who has a real gut-level feel for how big a joule is? And that number — 10^22! Wow! that is a BIG number! Sounds impressive. Look at chart 2, Global Ocean Heat Content down to 2000 meters. In the last half century the charts says that we have gained approximately 24X10^22 joules. Again, ocean heat is estimated based on temperature changes; we do not measure heat directly with a heat-ometer. We measure temperatures with a thermometer and then back-calculate how much heat has changed. Why on earth do they show joules instead of degrees? Let’s do a little math… and yes, this is a rough estimate, but when you see the answer, you will realize that a bit of error will not make much difference. The area of the world’s
oceans is about 3.8 X 10^8 km^2, and we are looking down to 2 km deep, so the volume is 7.6 X 10^8 km^3, which is the same as 7.6 X 10^23 cm^3. One joule can warm one cm^3 of water by one degree, so how much warming of the ocean have we had in the last half century? A little less than 8/100ths of a degree. Do you see now why they do not show the chart in degrees? 8/100th of a degree over a half century is not scarey at all — but 24X10^22 joules! Wow! Scarey!
More to the point, does any reasonable person really believe that we know what the average temperature of the Earth’s oceans was a half century ago? And that we knew it to hundredths of a degree? A more realistic estimate would be that maybe we knew it to a degree or two. Try measuring a beaker of water in a laboratory to a hundredth of a degree; you are going to have a very hard time of it. Now imagine doing that same measurement fro the entire world ocean. It is only in the last ten years or so that we have had even a rough knowledge of what world wide ocean depth temperatures are. Even with today’s MUCH, MUCH better coverage, we still have embarrassingly scant coverage. I am too lazy to do the number again, but a year or two ago I estimated that if you divided the oceans up into chunks roughly the size of all the Great Lakes combined, that current measuring systems would work out to about one measurement per chunk per year.
When the CAGW warmongers tell you that they have found the global warming heat hiding in the oceans, they are so far off the truth that I cannot even give their character the benefit of a doubt. They are liars. If they tell you they are not, ask them why they talk about joules instead of degrees. They are only trying to scare you — and the truth is, no one knows whether the oceans have warmed or cooled over the last half century.

No, they don’t show it rising in the latest Apr-Jun graph. It dropped 2 X 10^22 joules since the previous Jan-Mar for 0-700 m, and the 0-2000 m seems to have dropped a fraction, hard to see at the top of the graph, but if they were cooking, it would be going up.
NOAA has been busted manipulating Temperature data and Tide Gage Data… in my view they’ve just moved on to something else here.. “ocean heat”… throw out the allegation and now Skeptics are on the defensive again, we have to do all this research to show the gaps, lies and data manipulation all over again with regards to “ocean heat”…

It probably will if the solar cycle ramps up and el Niño kick in at the same time. I wonder how much that affects their math since ALL of the current rise due at the time of 1998 was all co2? Since then we’ve had a 13 % rise in co2, If the rise linear, should the amount of heat retained should be linear too. The IPCC chart says so. The have no apparent way for the heat to be sinking in the ocean in such massive amounts over the last, between, take your pick, 10 to 18 years.
I don’t know if anybody reads the other warmest boards. I generally don’t comment there. The latest one has el Nino and the solar cycle making the temperature spiking by 150%. Naturally skeptics are the most evil group of people on the planet because we just aren’t buying it. Sometime around a 2006/ 2007 I dropped out of this debate although because it really looked liked a losing battle until I got an email telling to look at the solar cycle.. it went quite. It went quite and wasn’t expected. They think that the solar cycle is going to spike and we are going to have a very strong el Nino. We’re half way through the solar cycle that is running about half of what it was. What I think is that we may see either no el Nino or a weak one. And if the sun spot activity goes dead again. It won’t be global warming I’ll be worried about. All the predictions about droughts, fires, flooding, unusually weather also occurs when the temperature drops as well. Somebody has to know a lot more about this than me. I wonder what the real agenda is when they are trying so hard to make us believe that unprecedented warming is always just about to happen. What I think their real agenda is to have a perfect storm of colder weather and very high prices for fuel. I have about 3 years when it will really start to hurt people big time. Last winter propane, for most rural people that use it, was $5/gal. Taking bets on who thinks the price of price of propane will go down this winter? I’m sure it’s strapping a lot of budgets. Next year the slow creep of people having to borrow money to pay for the heat will increase, and at some point people will start either start moving or dying. I think they want them to die. I travel around quite a bit, and I am looking at the price of fuel to go somewhere. I am looking at alternate ways of getting there. I do miss actually looking at something that AGW puts out like a file photo of a dry reservoir when it is filled and spilling. (proof of the drought and it is only going to get worse due of course to AGW) They must think that we still live in a time when information is slow and not easy to verify or have no way of knowing. I think the AGW people are crazy. ( in a sick, bad way)

NOW (modern Warm Period) 476 Wm-2
Depth of the last ice age – around 463 Wm?2
A fall 2012 paper Can we predict the duration of an interglacial? gives the calculated solar insolation values of several glacial inceptions:
Current value – insolation = 479W m?2 (from that paper)
MIS 7e – insolation = 463 W m?2,
MIS 11c – insolation = 466 W m?2,
MIS 13a – insolation = 500 W m?2,
MIS 15a – insolation = 480 W m?2,
MIS 17 – insolation = 477 W m?2
The Holocene interglacial is now 11,717 years old….. That’s two centuries or so beyond half the present precession cycle (or 23,000/2=11,500). Only one interglacial , MIS-11, since the Mid-Pleistocene Transition has lasted longer than about half a precession cycle.
Any hope that the Holocene would go long was shot down by Lisiecki and Raymo in 2005 in their rebuttal of Loutre and Berger, 2003. No one since has disputed that paper.
The Sea level High Stand was thousands of years ago and the earth is now cooling off in the last stages of the Holocene.
The Holocene sea level Highstand was also ~ 1.5 meter above todays sea-level 6,000 years ago in geologically stable South Vietnam.
This sea level evidence is backed up by the paper, Temperature and precipitation history of the Arctic It says: “Solar energy reached a summer maximum (9% higher than at present) ~11 ka ago and has been decreasing since then, primarily in response to the precession of the equinoxes. The extra energy elevated early Holocene summer temperatures throughout the Arctic 1-3°C above 20th century averages, enough to completely melt many small glaciers throughout the Arctic, although the Greenland Ice Sheet was only slightly smaller than at present.”
Another, more recent study in Norway agrees:

RAH, there were those who did predict a quiet solar cycle 24 years before it happened. They were just shouted down by the the Alarmists.
This interglacial period is very long in the tooth and is fading. The Eco Loonies fear a degree of temp increase but are clueless about what an Ice Age means for humanity.
The most recent studies killed any hope that the Holocene would go long (double precession) so the only questions now are when will the earth get kicked into glaciation and what will cause the transition.

I have been messing about (strictly as an amateur) with chaotic systems and fractal structures since the early 1990s — and Dr. Brown says almost exactly what my own gut feelings are. While all observations point to a broad bi-stable system, the dimensionality of that system is still very much an unknown — and I suspect it may be higher than we think.
It seems pretty obvious that the Sun and Earth’s changing orbit in relation to the Sun are what reduce the amount of energy reaching Earth.. thus various warm/cold periods.
A “Maximum” Solar minimum combined with the Earth being further away is cyclical… would easily cause massive glaciation…

The different solar insolations for different glacial inceptions I listed in this comment indicates a bi-stable climate that needs a bunch of different factors all lined up to push the climate into a different stable state once the ball park solar insolation level is reached. (The earth is in that ball park now.)
The wide swings of the Dansgaard-Oeschger oscillations during glaciation vs the small swings of the Bond Events during interglacials, also point to a bistable climate with a ‘ceiling’ for maximum ‘Warming’ (So CAGW is a red herring and any scientist who did any research should know it.)
There is also the recent discovery of “Abrupt Climate Change” by Dr Alley et al who found the change from the Wisconsin Ice Age to the Holocene occurred within three years. One Geologist said “… what is really true about climate is that there are some amazing unknowns, such as what can rocket global temps up +20C, +16C and +8-+10C in dramatically short times. Dansgaard-Oeschger oscillations and terminations are the many 800 pound gorillas in the climate change room. And we do not yet know what causes them. ….”
I find it highly suspicious that give these rather obvious facts and given the 1970s global cooling scare, that there is no real effort being made to identify the factors need to push the earth into glaciation and that politicians, under the leadership of the UN are doing everything possible to make matters as difficult as possible for the ‘Great Unwashed’ to survive.

Ironically, “communism” as such isn’t the problem (neither is “capitalism”). The problem, as always, is Joe trying to force Jim to live according to Joe’s way of thinking. Another thing to consider: just as the 1970s-1990s warming was most likely natural (with a trace of human contribution), we must also consider that, all the problems caused by our “rulers” or “leaders” or other people seen as being “in power” notwithstanding, some at least of our problems must be “natural”. I don’t deliberately make a messy, flea-ridden house, but I may get one out of my natural inclination to go home after work and read blogs instead of keep house, kind of thing. A belief in the need for governors and government to take care of us, to keep us out of trouble — that’s certainly a contributing factor. What can people, elected or appointed to high office, do BUT serve their own interests? Why expect them to do otherwise?
Honor and love of Country have been greatly diminished… throw in a ton of money and lack of accountability … we end up with what we have now.
