It Must Be The CO2!

Phoenix warmed 10 degrees in the last 50 years, while the less urbanized surrounding areas have warmed much less. It must be the CO2.

The effects of the UHI are most pronounced during the summer (June-July-August) months. In a simple comparison, average high and low temperatures from Maricopa, AZ and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport were compared (Figures 2 and 3). Little difference exists between the high temperatures from 1961 through 2007; however, low temperatures have trended warmer at Sky Harbor as compared to Maricopa, indicative of the existence of a strengthening UHI.

Why would billions of cars, buildings, air conditioners, heaters, parking lots, asphalt roads, etc. cause surface temperatures to be affected?

Heading to Maricopa Tuesday!! Climate Refugee!!! Andy DC…will have to hoist a beer one day!!

  2. R. de Haan says:

It’s the asphalt and concrete that function as a heat sink increasing the night temperatures.

When I run an engine the heat is absorbed by the surrounding air which warms up, expands and rises. Surface temperature is not affected by this process.

But the CO2 backradiates LWIR to the lower reaches of the oceans where the heat is confined and will appear again at some future date to heat the air up to 212°C.

  4. John Q. Galt says:

Is there such a thing as an Urban Humidity Island Effect? I’ve got to think the massive importation and release of water, the most significant GHG, into the developed areas creates a microclimate.

Check out places like Palm Springs…

    • R. de Haan says:

Known effect of heating cities is the development of thermals. Every glider pilot knows about this. The air over the city rises and cools down. A cloud is formed and this cloud reflects the sunlight cooling the city.

Big fluctuations are always compensated by the continuous process of the earth’s atmospheric system to reach an equilibrium.

All the anxiety attack from environmentalist alarmists are compensated by cool realists, skeptics and…mother nature.

      So don’t worry, be happy.

As for politics in Europe we observe the EU executing UN Agenda 21 which has the effect of an metastatic cancer that eats the very fabric of our ancient old nations, our economies, and our liberties from the inside out.

In the USA the Obama Administration is also in support of the UN Agenda 21 exposing the US to the same metastatic cancer as we observe in Europe.

The cancer is spreading fast and we have to undertake a surgical operation to remove the tumors soon.
