Quietest US Hurricane Season On Record

The US has had no hurricanes and one minimal tropical storm this summer.

In 1886, the US was hit by seven hurricanes. As CO2 has increased, the number of hurricanes striking the US has decreased.

    If the season ends without any further storms it will likely be the quietest (in terms of ACE) since 1983 and possibly the second lowest since 1946. (1977 was lower but the ‘subtropical cyclone’ part of Hurricane Babe’s history was not included in the season ACE computation. Oddly, we never have ‘subtropical cyclones’ (winds over 34kts but further from the center than a tropical cyclone) any more. I wonder why???)
