Chelsea Clinton says that the oceans are the hottest ever!

If Chelsea thinks the oceans are hot, perhaps she should take a swim in water outside her Manhattan apartment.

The current NOAA sea surface temperature maps shows more than 51% of ocean pixels at normal or below normal temperature, which is 8% more than the vote Chelsea Clinton’s father won the presidential election with in 1992.

In this map, I flattened out the colors to show above normal in red, below normal in blue and normal in white.

And in the five images below, I mapped the projection to an equal area projection. You would have to be pretty delusional to believe these oceans are the hottest ever.

January 1950 was 18 degrees warmer than this year at Bloomington, Indiana. During January 1950, Bloomington had several days approaching 80 degrees.

The years 1950, 1951 and 1952 had very warm January weather across much of the US.

There has been no trend in January afternoon temperatures across the US over the past century.

There has also been no trend in the frequency of January nights below 20F.

Over the past century, US February afternoon temperatures have declined. They were very warm during the 1920’s and 1930’s

It is easy to see why climate experts like to start their graphs in 1979.

It is 66 degrees in Melbourne this afternoon, but in 1903 temperatures were nearly 50 degrees warmer.  No surprise BOM throws out all inconvenient pre-1910 data.
