I lived in Huntington Beach for many years. The takeaway from these images is that utilizing earth’s resources DOES NOT cause irreparable harm to the environment. There is little evidence today of Southern California’s oily past.
I don’t think anyone wants to see the landscape dominated by oil rigs. But I suspect that isn’t necessary with today’s technology.
