It was very enjoyable, despite the fact that it was a total rip-off of the story lines from Pocahontas and Fern Gulley.   We all know that the climate was indeed perfect at Chaco Canyon, and that the Aztecs were a peace loving people living in harmony with nature and with each other.

But James Cameron’s recent statements may be slightly off base :

a two-degree temperature change in the world’s oceans “will take out all the coral reefs.”

Given that the Earth’s temperature changes by 10 degrees on a regular basis, I am having  a little bit of a tough time with that. Maybe the corals would move rather than go extinct (unlike the Democratic Party.)

He also said :

“I believe ultimately this has to be approached as a children’s crusade,”

They tried that 800 years ago and it didn’t work out so well. No thanks!

    Steven,

    A couple of comments:

    1) A 2 degree increase in SST is not a clear and present danger. See – http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/ml/ocean/sst/anom_anim.html
Looks like a cooling trend to me.

    2) A children’s crusade doesn’t sound like it could help the coral – whatever the coral’s problem happens to be.

A couple of quick questions: Isn’t this the same James Cameron that turned tail and ran from a public debate on Man-Made Global Warming he picked with Marc Morano? And now he wants the children to crusade for his cause? Hmmm. Just asking.

Cameron also did The Abyss where he did a number on the military. And the heroes in that pic? Big oil. And here’s another thought … when Hollywood puts out an anti-business film, are they basing their portrayal of business on actual businesses or on the way Big Hollywood operates and its business “ethics”. Just a thought.

even 10 degrees would not take them out as +15degrees from where we are the “normal” temperature of is settled. i am a paleontologist, so a clear no.

children crusade. one of the most cruel thing ever happed. way more than 20.000 children dead even on they way from France over the Alps, or more. it instincts a generation and was provoked/supported from church. what does it tell us about the church of global warming and their priests?

james cameron is a hypocritical ass.

but i also immensely enjoyed avatar.

i even agree with the anti-war message. i don’t lie, or kill people and steal their sh*t. i was always taught that was wrong. go figure.

unfortunately, it is the modus operandi of our government and the banks and corporations that own it.

Avatar was a rip off of an Alan Dean Foster novel: Midworld. Filed off the serial numbers, but it is so recognizable as based on that book. Closer than “Blade Runner” is to “Do Android’s Dream of Electric Sheep” on which it was based.

  7. Bruce says:

There has been little dissemination of the finding that coral bleaching is actually a change in alga symbiont from low temperature to high temperature strains not an irreversible ejection. The corals go white after they eject the lower temperature but more efficient algal strain, and it takes a while for the less efficient but more temperature tolerant replacement strain to build up.

Not surprising it hasn’t been headlined since it is work coming out of James cook uni here in Oz, and is not the sort of think the Scripps of this world would prefer to hear.

In other words this statement “will take out all the coral reefs” is stark staringly bonkers. Maybe someone could tell Mr Cameron this before he soils his name some more.
