Why Would The Public Be Interested?

We have scientists in the public arena telling politicians that we need to completely restructure our society, massively raise taxes, propagandize our schoolchildren, diminish our lifestyles, and give up our freedoms. They also want billions of dollars, to travel to exotic locations every few months in order to make new plans for how to control the ignorant masses.

These same people also want to be left alone and not be asked any questions by the public. And they think it is unfair that they are asked questions, even when shown to be producing junk science and repressing other scientific viewpoints.

Addendum :

To be clear, this post is not about NSIDC.

NSIDC staff have always been very responsive, professional and helpful, and provide a tremendous amount of useful information about the state of the ice.

    propagandize our schoolchildren….

And telling school kids trees are going potty when autumn arrives.

Scientist: Changing Leaves are Just Trees Going Potty

In grade school most of us were taught that changing leaf colors were the result of falling temperatures. But a British scientist is now adding a more complex explanation: the leaves aren‘t just turning colors because it’s cold, they’re changing because the trees are going to the bathroom.

I know may viewers of this site probably use Google. I don’t. I think google is evil and jumping into places where tech companies don’t belong. Also, Schmidt is on Obama’s technology team which raises my level of concern even higher.

Now this. Be sure to read the article to see what other gems of wisdom google and Schmidt have to offer.

Do these particular scientists have names?
I’d certainly like to know them and the evidence you have on them, any chance?

    • Julienne Stroeve says:

      me too.

      • Julienne Stroeve says:

Steve, not really. It was a very bold statement you wrote, accusing scientists of all those things, that I believe most scientists would disagree with.

        • I’m not saying that most scientists would agree with those claims. Just a few well known ones who grab the headlines.

In my experience, NSIDC staff have always been extremely responsive to public inquiries, and should serve as a model for other organisations.

          Thank you for that!

    • Lazarus says:

So you are not going to support your assertions by giving the names of the scientists in the public arena “telling politicians that we need to completely restructure our society, massively raise taxes, propagandize our schoolchildren, diminish our lifestyles, and give up our freedoms. They also want billions of dollars, to travel to exotic locations every few months in order to make new plans for how to control the ignorant masses?”

Because they don’t sound like any scientists I have ever heard off and I suspect if you gave any actual names you would be putting yourself in a libellous position.

  5. Marcia, Marcia says:

I personally didn’t get the impression he was talking about the NSIDC in saying “to travel to exotic locations every few months in order to make new plans for how to control the ignorant masses.”

  6. John Edmondson says:

Scientists (or anyone else for that matter) can say what they like. To have any credibility, words must be matched by facts. Anything else is meaningless. Anything else would include climate models.

  7. glacierman says:

The key to the statement “We have scientists in the public arena telling politicians…..”
is the in public arena part.

It is hard to imagine that this refers to all, or most, or a majority of scientists. In the public arena to me means pretty clearly those scientist who have made the conscience decision to become activists, by say writing a book, or operating a blog that advocates political action, etc. If a scientist does not fall into the In the Public Arena, then they were not included.

    • Julienne Stroeve says:

Except that we are in the public arena on a regular basis, whether it’s for an interview, educational outreach at a high school, or college or the Denver Museum, or other public events. In fact it is expected that scientists engage in outreach activities. If we’re talking about activists, then that’s another matter.

    • Lazarus says:

      glacierman

There is a big difference from a scientist exercising their right to write a book or express a political opinion and ‘telling politicians that we need to completely restructure our society, massively raise taxes, propagandize our schoolchildren, diminish our lifestyles, and give up our freedoms’.
