We are a full half a standard deviation below the mean, with extent dropping by a minuscule amount every day.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Almost all of the ice loss is in the Barents Sea..
Ice in the Barents Sea is wide open and very vulnerable to wind.
They have been running ice breakers up there all winter because of the oil and gas field that was just discovered.
Russia has just built two new ice breakers just for the Barents Sea, and so have the Norwegians.
This is the new normal for the Barents Sea. Expect it to throw off the bell curve from now on.
This new data comports with the PIPS 3.0 that shows ice up to 6 + meters thick north of Greenland. Thick ice melts slower, obviously. It would be worse, I imagine, if the ice breakers didn’t keep the sea routes churned up and susceptible to winds.
The credibility of climate scientists has been a death spiral for quite some time.
Frightening stuff! We’re doomed!

No El Nino warmth in Northern Hemisphere land and water surrounding Arctic ice.
I’m going to give it a shot and say 2011 (red) will end up higher than 2009 (blue) when minimum is said and done this year.
