Hinckley, MN was burned to the ground with the loss over over 400 lives. The summer of 1894 was the worst drought in the cornbelt with exception of a couple years in the 1930’s.
An exceptional and terrible event. It was so dry and hot that dense dust in air literallly caused the atmosphere to catch on fire, rapidly consuming oxygen so those trying to escape by going into bodies of water perished. It was described as being worse than the great Chicago fire,
