I once witnessed the spectacle of a U of MD professor groveling in front of some Government people for grants. Actually, not a bad guy. In fact later he told me how much he hated doing it.
So is anyone in their right mind in his position ever going to say that global warming is no problem? Of course not! They are going to say the problem is worse that we thought and that we are on the cutting edge. No problem means no grant money. It isn’t hard to get 97% consensus under those circumstances.
