I have pointing out for the last three months that Arctic sea ice was tracking just below 2006, both in shape and size. Our alarmist friends thought that was hilarious, and kept making comments about free-fall and a new record minimum.

It’s actually closer to 2009, 2010,2005 and 2011 than 2006 at the moment Steve.
It’s certainly not near 2007 or 2013 though. I think some of the scientists were surprised how much ice is there this year, so a little bird tells me, though.
Might be thin though, need to look at Cryosat 2. Hence why such a difference between Eastern and Western sides.

Perhaps I will set up a collection box to buy you a new pair of glasses.
Yes we know …. it is thin, rotten, decayed, dirty, slushy, frail, sick, destitute & needy. It could be worse it could have gone to bottom of the ocean like the missing heat 😉
“Needy” ice. Oh no. Is it going to ask for a government grant to study itself? 😀
Yes, and the Atlantic is littered with Hurricanes too
In other satisfying news. It seems the green pees assault on the Gazprom rig in the arctic is going to result in piracy charges.

Maybe the Russkies can do us all a favor….
Very low year for hurricane activity. Right now there is an invest with 25 mph winds and a typhoon near Japan with 75 mph winds. Maybe it is my imagination but there seem to be an awful lot of storms they call Cat. 1 that have winds 1 mph over a tropical storm and a lot of t.s. that were only 1 mph over a depression this year that they keep tracking. Meanwhile Jeff Masters has a post up saying how warm this August was over the last million years and 6 billion in damages, etc. etc.
I seem to recall “Dorthy” predicting something about every “gust of wind” being named this hurricane season.
Pretty soon, sea ice extent will be greater than 2006. At that point, we’ll need charts that go back further in history to show declining ice.
Don’t forget the BLOWTORCH
hehehe
