The US has suffered several mass shootings recently by madmen in gun-free zones, which went on until a sane person with a gun showed up and put an end to the carnage.

So Oh-Bomb-Ya wants to take guns away from law-abiding gun owners because of a crazed nutjob who decided he would ignore the laws and kill, kill, kill. (i.e. obey the laws just like Oh-Bomb-Ya obeys the law)
It would be like taking the cars away from the law-abiding, safe drivers because one fool was driving drunk with a suspended license and hit a school bus. Thus cementing in the minds of progressives, that cars can be used to kill.
