The very quiet fire year of 2013 continues, with near historic lows in number of fires and burn acreage – and no fires currently burning in most western states.

The southwest has received record amounts of rain in recent months. Parts of Utah have received more than 100% of their normal annual rainfall in just the past seven days.

If you listen to CNN or Barack Obama, you would believe that this has been a record fire year, and that the southwest is wracked by drought. They are not in the business of telling the truth.

    A friend of mine lives in the foothills east of LA. He recalls fires 10 years ago much more massive than the Rim fire, and wonders where they get this all from….
