“Now, this debt ceiling — I just want to remind people in case you haven’t been keeping up — raising the debt ceiling, which has been done over a hundred times, does not increase our debt; it does not somehow promote profligacy.

Obama: ‘Raising the Debt Ceiling…Does Not Increase Our Debt,’ Though It Has ‘Over 100 Times’ | CNS News

Senator Obama had a slightly different theory.

Obama’s Statement on Debt Ceiling as a U.S. Senator

“Mr. President, I rise today to talk about America’s debt problem. The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government’s reckless fiscal policies.

“Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.” –Senator Barack Obama (March 16, 2006)

  1. This is going to end badly.

  2. EW3 says:

As Bugs would say – “What a maroon!”

This is easily the stupidest thing ever uttered by a president.
Can you imagine the reaction if GWB said this? The media would be all over him.

    • We are talking about the same guy who said two weeks ago that the US was imminently threatened by Syria. He is a full blown psycho whack job.

      • EW3 says:

Steve, Was fortunate enough to have received an excellent education (science/engineering) in the days before PC overtook our culture. Statements like “Increasing The Credit Limit Doesn’t Lead To More Borrowing” have me questioning my own sanity.
Really appreciate your blog as it provides an anchor at times against the pervading insanity in this country. Living in Massachusetts I need all the anchors I can get ! 😉

    • DGP says:

What about this one on August 23, 2013, in Scranton, PA, Obama said, “Just because someone borrowed a bunch of money doesn’t mean they have to pay it back.”

  3. Scarface says:

Now THAT’S a tipping point. He could be on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

  4. Blade says:

Great Post Steve, air-tight case of hypocrisy. Shove this down the throats of every liberal scum that opens his mouth.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.

He called the President a failure because he wanted to increase the debt ceiling.

Also note that date is spring 2006, while the Congress was nominally still (R). 8 months later the (D)ummycrats won the election and 10 months later that were sworn in.

    Such criticism then vanished.

    • Shazaam says:

Except that the criticism lives on. Only on the internet it seems.

And the criticism is just as valid today as when Senator O-Bomb-Ya read that teleprompter speech. I love the irony here,,,,

If Obama had two heads he would have four faces.
