Who is really telling the truth?
Bush invaded Iraq because he was pissed of that Saddam threatened his father. Iraq was no threat to the US.
I think he did it to curry favor with the “moderate Muslim” neighbors–and the Iraqi opposition–of Saddam Hussein. Most especially, Saudi Arabia, who didn’t want to dirty it’s own hands fighting believers, and risk the wrath of their always war-minded brethren. Bush thought he could usher in the era of “good” Muslims–even though the 9/11 attackers came from Saudi Arabia. That’s why, though he quickly won the war, he lost the peace, thinking that the country would welcome American intervention in their behalf, once he excised Hussein and his army. But the eternal (so far) Sunni-Shia struggle is not to be so cavalierly, stupidly denied. Both sides, sharing the same barbarian religion, are barbarians to the West, whether “moderates” or hungry jihadists.
Don’t forget the “dodgy dossier” and the “downing street memo” – fixing facts around the policy. Or the OSP over in the basement of the Pentagon – “We don’t respond to reality. We create reality.”
