OK. Everyone who thinks France, England and Germany don’t monitor phone calls raise your hands… Ditto for the internet. For extra credit raise your hand if you think friendly European countries don’t monitor phne calls of people in the U.S. government. Regardless of what you think about states listening in or spying on the internet and transmissions everyone is doing it. Or more correctly every country that can afford to do it is doing it.
As Peter Wright laid out in his book, Spycatcher, back in 1985, governments spy on each other constantly. Heck according to Wright, back in the late 1950s early 1960s, the first people the Brits phone tapped were other Brits, then they tapped the French Embassy in London.
I wonder who at the UK’s GCHQ taps these days, and how much goes through unofficial/semi-official/official channels to NSA.
