a federally-run exchange for consumers in 36 states began posting error messages for at least 24 of them soon after the system opened for enrollment at 8 a.m. EDT

Some, like Massachusetts, were able to accept consumer log-ins. The state-run exchange in Maryland delayed its opening by four hours, while Minnesota said it would wait until the afternoon after checking its connection with federal databases.

Administration officials said they had expected a rocky opening because of the challenge of building a massive technological infrastructure within a short time.

Obama wanted his historical flustercluck to go live immediately, and decided that shutting down the government was a better option than delaying for a year until the system was ready.

In a democracy people get the leaders lobbyists purchase…

“Calling the case “an incredibly criminal, intentional act,” a federal judge on Monday sentenced fallen Nevada power broker Harvey Whittemore to two years in prison and fined the former multimillionaire $100,000 for using family and employees to make illegal campaign contributions to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The announcement came at the end of a six-hour sentencing hearing that included an emotional statement from the 61-year-old Whittemore, an ex-lobbyist and wealthy land developer, in which he said he accepted full responsibility, was sorry and ashamed of his actions, and begged U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks for mercy.”
