Last summer’s record Arctic cold (red below) was tough on Reggie, and it looks like we are doing a repeat in 2014 (blue below) Arctic temperatures dropped below normal about a month ago, and have stayed there ever since.

WTF? Why don’t they just fly over the area and call it done? This isn’t snorkeling, it is floating behind a motorized vehicle.
“The women have hired an expedition boat normally used for tourist cruises as their base camp. They’ll take turns jumping over the side in special dry suits that have heated undergarments and mitts, powered by battery packs.
Instead of swimming, the snorkeler will use one hand to hold onto a “diver propulsion vehicle,” a 1.2-metre-long scooter with a small propeller that travels between 3 to 5 km/h.”
Well, the good thing is that she has practice at having been rescued in the arctic. And her chefs!

Think about this:
First: Special dry suits that have heated undergarments and mitts, powered by battery packs. S they will be using heated mittens and dry suits and are relying on NOTHING going on with the technology to keep them alive.
Second: The snorkeler will use one hand to hold onto a “diver propulsion vehicle”
I wonder if a polar bear will think them a nice change in diet after eating all those seals…

They’re doing the rowers route in reverse! I wonder how far they’ll get?
Arctic sea ice is also looking pretty “healthy”, which is quite a surprise after the abnormal winter.

I saw temps as low as 11 degrees this morning in the high arctic Snow today for low elevation parts of Manitoba and Sascatchewan. Accumulating June snow is probably not unheard of in these places, but certainly is quite rare.
Hudson Bay is still close to 100% ice covered, which was not the case on this date the last couple of years.
Reggie’s blowtorch is a special blowtorch. It mostly works during the long Arctic night, and warms the polar region way up to 25 below zero instead of the usual 30 below zero. Oddly, it also cools things down in the summer and cuts the usual 80 day thaw down to 50 days or so. Extraordinary blowtorch…
I happen to know for a fact that Reggie’s Special Fantastic Blowtorch has raised the temperature of selected parts of the Artic from a chilly -40c to a balmy -40f. ; )
And to compound the problem for Reggie, this year there’s more thicker ice in the Arctic than a year ago…
