In USHCN V1, the TOBS adjustment was less than 0.4F, and goes flat after 1990.

This net effect is about the same as that of the TOB adjustments in the HCN version 1 temperature data (Hansen et al. 2001), which is to be expected since the same TOB-adjustment method is used in both versions.

So the same algorithm now produces very different results, favoring global warming – as with all the other data tampering. Zeke says he doesn’t know what caused the discrepancy.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the entire rationale and calculations for TOBS adjustments based on a single Karl paper from 1986?
If someone is stupid enough to reset their thermometer early in the morning or late in the afternoon (and not again at night), they will suffer serious TOBS issues. It is difficult for me to believe that anyone would be stupid enough to do that. The problem becomes abundantly apparent after doing it for a few days.

What you are doing is performing the in-depth Systems Testing that the Govt-employed I.T. people should have done. When all this finally blows up in their faces, you should feel justified in submitting an invoice for Systems Testing.
