Freddie Mercury Reincarnated [Corrected]

Today is Freddie Mercury’s 68th birthday. Check out Adam Lambert, who has replaced him. Not the same presence on stage, but his voice is almost a carbon copy.

Check out Marc Martel, whose voice is almost a carbon copy. I heard him on the radio and Brian May talking about him yesterday – originally posted the wrong person

    You’re getting hearing problems?

Much better but also 22 years ago. We are getting old.

    • You are conflating the quality of the recording with a difference in voice. Brian May says the guy sounds almost identical.

      • Robertv says:

Brain May too is getting old.

      • Robertv says:

And “sounds almost identical” doesn’t mean it has ‘IT’ .

Let’s put it this way: I don’t like it. And yes I’m a Queen enthusiast. But after listening there were no tears in my eyes and that’s the difference.

A REALLY good vocalist can do a lot of voices. My voice is ruined now by health problems, but in my 20’s I could do most voices almost identical to the original. When I had a band, I could do both parts of a duet and you would think two people were alternately singing. This included some female voices.

I particularly liked stuff by Stevie Wonder, Kansas, Styx, Whitney Houston, Maria Carey, and John Secada because they were difficult. I could do George Michael to a T. I couldn’t properly follow Maria and Whitney in the very top of their range, but they couldn’t follow me to the bottom of mine either.

But a number of people can only sing in one voice. My natural voice was something like Mark Farner. So, maybe this kid’s natural voice is similar to Mercury’s. He acts and sounds comfortable in the alto range.

Because of my background, I think I know what is truly great singing. 🙂 A lot of people just know what they like. There are a lot of great voices: Pavarotti got a lot of attention, but I prefer Placido Domingo. Tom Jones is better than people think. Johnny Mathis too.

Michael Crawford was awesome. Like the finest wine:

Is global warming affecting the gay community? I am sure there are tons of articles on the subject.

He should sing: ” Can anybody find me somebody to give AIDS to?”

    Check out Marc Martel.

Brian May has concert tickets to sell; of course he is going to claim Lambert sounds “just like him.” Lambert is cut from the same cloth as Freddie, has a good voice and is the only obvious guy to front Queen, but I don’t think they sound alike at all.

Music Hall Rock ‘n Roll, bless them.

It brings back memories of working in tobacco in Norfolk County, Ontario. The kiln hanger had a Queen 8 track that he played over and over and over again. I drove an old Farmal A tractor, crank start and all. Red Kelly got it as part of the deal for signing for the Detroit Red Wings back in 1947. Tractors were hard to get right after the war. I worked for Joe and Red Kelly and there father. I’d tie a string to the governor to really pour the gas to it that and the Super A they had.

I know I’m not ‘with it’ when I have to look up who Fred Mercury is was.

I remembered some of my favorites, but not the dead front man of Queen without a prompt.

If you think Marc Martel does a good ‘Somebody to Love’, check out his Bohemian Rhapsody with a church band…

This brightened my day. Martel is awesome (yes, there was only one Freddie Mercury–amazing–but would we still view Freddie the same way if Martel had done those songs first?). Oh, to have that talent! No firm answer to my question, imho. Thanks for posting this!

Ok, please tell me who is going to replace Mick Jagger when he dies? Don’t worry about Keith Richards croaking, he’s been dead for 15 years that’s just an automaton the boys from Kent bought to hide Keith’s demise or else every life insurance actuary on the planet is a fool.
