  1. Geologists are old white guys.

    • gator69 says:

      He said permanently alter.

It is this mindset that I encountered with my climatology professors, that the contemporary world was somehow supposed to be static. And after years of studying geology, I found it most peculiar, and wildly ignorant.

      • stewart pid says:

As a geologist and after reading your past posts I’m not surprised in the least that you struggled to grasp Geology 😉
Perhaps you needed to get up on the Canadian shield and looking at some real rocks to open your eyes!

        • gator69 says:

Geology to me is like breathing, and no, I don’t have any respiratory issues.

My fascination with the only real hard science began in the Alps, and continues today across oceans and plains.

You forgot the sarc tag, but I got the joke anyway. 😉

        • omanuel says:

One of my first analyses was of ThUCHolite, and old and intriguing sample from the Canadian Shield.

It contains Thorium (Th), Uranium (U) in a hydrocarbon (C, H) matrix, probably the only geological rock named correctly for chemists to understand.

We were looking for neutron-induced fission in Earth’s early history to confirm Kuroda’s prediction of Pre-Fermi natural nuclear reactors on Earth.

Our analysis in the early 1960s failed to confirm Kuroda’s 1956 prediction, but scientists in the French Atomic Energy Commission confirmed Kuroda’s prediction about a decade later in the Oklo Uranium Mine in 1972.

Amen. Of course, most of the Mass coastline south of Boston consists of glacial till (unconsolidated sand and gravel), so is constantly reshaped by waves, streams, and wind

    Duh

  3. LeeHarvey says:

My first remedy would be to fire the nimrod at the National Weather Service who seems to think that any feature of the surface of the earth (especially one made of glacial till) is permanent.

  4. Jimmy Haigh says:

Je suis an old white guy. And proud of it.

  5. Gail Combs says:

Don’t read this gushing article on a full stomach

    http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/meet-eric-holthaus-the-rebel-nerd-of-meteorology-20140212

He either dank the koolaid or he is earning $$$ for pitching ever weather event as being caused by Gore Bull Warbling.

Here is an absolute classic disinfo statement.
“..Amazingly, according to one study, nearly half of all US meteorologists don’t believe that humans are the cause of climate change. Holthaus has met this contingent at conferences. “The crowd is like 1980s military uniform-type people,” he says. “They’re prominently conservative Republicans in positions of power, and they want to push the message they believe, politically.”…”

    • annieoakley says:

That is so progessive. Accuse the other side of doing what you are doing.

    • gofer says:

Conservatives tend to understand human nature that people will make mistakes or flat out lie, including scientists and they want to see proof rather than accept it because it is said by an “expert”. Real scientists come up with a theory and then attack it from all sides to see if it stands up and critique is welcomed. When I saw how the warmers protected their data and rejected criticism, I knew something was wrong. The final straw was when the “denier” meme started. They outted themselves as snake oil merchants.

  6. omanuel says:

After 1945, the UN’s man-made consensus science for research grants produced the:

    1. Standard Model of Earth’s Origin and Evolution
    2. Standard Climate Models
    3. Standard Solar Models
    4. Big Bang Cosmology and
    5. Standard Nuclear Models and Big Bang Cosmology

These are all ‘simplistic nonsense’ invented by Big Brother (Stalin) after WWII.

Thanks to astute bloggers like Steven aka Tony, Big Brother’s Great Social Experiment of 1945-2015 [1] is over and Big Brother has been correctly identified as the UN after Occam’s razor shaved away seventy years of growth on BB’s chin [2].

  7. Frank K. says:

The storm is a bust in my location in western New Hampshire. 6 – 8″ inches of snow…no wind…[yawn]

    • Blowing pretty good down here in the flatlands. Snow up over the hoods of cars & more coming down. Last year was worse, though. No contest.

      • Gail Combs says:

        What general area/state?

        • Ah, I thought it was clear from context.

New Hampshire, but the part without real mountains (basically anything South & East of Concord). Man Chest Hair, in my case.

        • Gail Combs says:

I lived in Hudson, Londonderry and Plaistow.

        • Ah, nice. I’d rather live farther from MA, though. Hudson & Plaistow are terrible these days.

        • Gail Combs says:

I escaped to the middle of North Carolina when my husband and I both lost our jobs due to the companies going belly up.

        • My wife is very much not liking Winter, so I’m trying to sell her in moving to the Philippines. Barring that, the Carolinas do look good (especially SC, humina humina Haley, woo!). They also have the advantage of having an entire state between them & Flor’duh.

        • Gail Combs says:

Go to South Carolina. Too many Da,,m Yanks here in North Carolina mucking up the government.

Towards the mountains the weather is not too bad (hot) in South Carolina.

Actually these last two summers in NC it barely got to 95 for a day or two and right now it is 41F.

I do not miss shoveling snow!

        • Jason Calley says:

Hey Stark! If you are shopping for a place to move, go check out the area around Chattanooga, either north, east or not-too-far-south (cause that puts you too close to Atlanta). Another interesting area is the southern Missouri or northern Arkansas Ozarks.

        • Jason Calley says:

Somehow, I managed to leave out the area just west of Chattanooga. Anyway, very pretty all through that area.

        • gator69 says:

Love the Chattanooga area, it was my regular stop on the way to Florida, for many years. My mother’s side of the family settled that area, there was a land grant after the Revolutionary war that gave them the area south of East Ridge. They settled next to a spring that is now the water source for Chattanooga, and the house is still there. The house was used as a field hospital during the civil war, and is now owned by the city.

        • Hrm, we do know some people in Cchhaattaannooggaa, Tteenneessee. And again, it does not abut Florida, which is always a good thing.

    • R. de Haan says:

      From Drudge Heaadlines:

      HISTORIC
      SNOW JOB…
      Meteorologist apologizes…
      Weather Service to ‘evaluate modeling’…
      Residents Lash Out…
      ‘TRAVEL BAN’ NEW NORM…
      LIVE: TIMES SQUARE CAM…
      6,000+ flights canceled…
      Grocery stores cleaned out…
      CHRISTIE: Be Home By 9…
Mayor Thanks Sharpton for ‘Climate Change’ Work…

From today it has become clear that hysterical official wreck more economic havoc on their constituents than a storm in a tea cup.

    • Two hours & a bunch of shovelling later, still snowing to beat the band. You Westerners have it good. Too good.

  8. omanuel says:

    EARLY GEOLOGY

    1. Earth formed heterogeneously, with the iron core forming first out of iron-rich material orbiting at 1 AU from the pulsar remains of the SN that birthed the solar system.

    2. The mantle accreted later as stone meteorites falling toward the Sun crossed Earth’s orbit.

    3. The upper mantle melted to produce Earth’s crust, atmosphere and ocean.

    4. The original continent split, perhaps aided by natural nuclear reactors that burned near the boarder of [Africa (e.g., Oklo) and America] to create the Atlantic Ocean and [America and Asia] to create the Pacific Ocean. The latter natural reactor may have sank to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean and produce the giant “Circle of Fire” volcanos seen today.

    • inMAGICn says:

Oklo is nowhere near the Atlantic and wasn’t at the time of the Atlantic rift. The reaction occurred long before the rift. I worked in the francenvillien A series and later further west out of Tchibanga where there is a large geosyncline of post-francevillien deposits all of which predate the rift and are between Oklo and the Atlantic.
      Sorry.

      • omanuel says:

Sorry. You are mistaken. Read Kuroda’s book, Origin of the Chemical Elements and the Oklo Plenomenon, and study the map of the original continent that broke up to produce the current continents.

The Oklo reactor was near of the region that split into Africa and America.

        • inMAGICn says:

Do not read a book. Go there. Do the geology. Oklo is surrounded by a huge extent of deep ocean sedimentary rocks. No rifting there. A complete depositional basin of younger rocks lies between the francevillien facies and the ocean.
The reactor ran and shut down in the pre-Cambrian (say 1.7 billion ybp). The oldest rocks in any ocean anywhere are Jurassic (145 to 200 mybp).
You are off chronologically by 1.5 billion years and geographically by 200 kilometers.
Lived there, worked there, met the experts on Oklo and Mounana. Chuck the book; it sounds like it was ghost-written by Velikovsky. Or van Danikan.

      • omanuel says:

Let’s try to keep our egos out of the discussion.

Reading the literature is a good idea:

        1. My research mentor – a nuclear geochemist – published a diagram on p. 48 of his book, The Origin of the Chemical Elements and the Oklo Phenomenon showing the Oklo self-sustaining nuclear reactor near the boundary of the continents that became Africa and South America. See Fig 4.3 on page 48 of his book.

        2. My Postdoc research adviser – a physicist – went to Brazil in 1964 to collect and determine K-Ar ages of rocks from South America and Africa showing that the two continents split. I don’t have the reference but I’m confident you can find it by doing a search for the publications of the late John H. Reynolds of UC Berkeley.

        • inMAGICn says:

Please explain Jurassic rifting caused by a natural nuclear reactor shutting OFF 1.5 billion years before.

        • omanuel says:

See: “Potassium-argon ages of alkaline rocks from Southern Brazil,”Geochim. Cosmochim. Acta 31:117-142.

        • omanuel says:

I was wrong to suggest a natural nuclear reactor may have separated Asia from America.

The Pacific Ocean, East of Asia and West of America, surrounded the original continent before it broke apart.

    • omanuel says:

“Ring of Fire” is the term commonly used for the volcanos that build islands from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

  9. philjourdan says:

Billionaires park their icebergs in Boston Harbor.

  10. Eliza says:

Im sick and tired of WUWT, J Curry, ect pandering to the warmist, publishing their work for refuttal when in fact the whole thing is obviously criminal activity liable for prosecution, Fraud, its time something was really done to get these guys tried for incredible damages to companies, society, people ect. I only will attend SG and other SCIENTIFIC sites that are really taking this AGW scam on seriously.LOL Ie Paraguay temps (WHAT HAS BEEN DONE)? Nothing, zero zilch nada ect LOL, WUWT has not even mentioned it

    • omanuel says:

WUWT, J. Curry etc. are not at fault.

I had almost fifty years of evidence government scientists were purposely promoting falsehoods, before I finally had the courage to ask directly the Congressional Space Science & Technology in 2013,

“Why Did Our Government Deceive Us?

There was no reply, a response that conveyed information about the extent of the problem – in both political parties.

WUWT and J. Curry are waking up to a reality worse than anything we could have imagined.
