Incredible And Crazy – Incompetent Journalists And Climate Scientists

A few weeks ago, during mid-winter, experts announced that rapidly growing Antarctic sea ice had “shrunk to record lows.”

Antarctic sea ice: Shrinks to record low levels, study says

Antarctic sea ice extent is right at the 1981-2010 mean.

The southern oceans are running well below normal temperature.

There is nothing in the least bit incredible or crazy going on.

During January, 1976 – there was almost no sea ice around Antarctica.

Lots of hysterics – no science – no reality or integrity either.

About once every six months one can expect a spat of hyperventilation from alarmists over something in the Antarctic. It’s like a bone they bury and the dig up and worry for awhile and then bury again.

Maybe not in the Antarctic, but most definitely in the MSM, DC, and academia.

  3. Adrian says:

I predict that they will claim the record maximum as ‘normal level’ and when (if) it drops to normal levels before the record increase, they will claim ‘catastrophic melting’.

So idiotic is their religion, the ice increased during CO2 rise, it was because of CO2 rise (all sorts of rationalizations, melting ice, less salty water, all that post hoc crap). The ice decreases, it’s also consistent with the religion. No matter what it happens, it’s according to the cargo cultist bullshit.

      It’s in the article:

“Around Antarctica, sea ice averaged 4.9 million square miles in 2014. By 2017, it was a record low of 4.1 million square miles ”

They are using the high of 2014 as their reference point.

  4. Taphonomic says:

Probably time for another bunch of idjits to get their ship stuck in the ice.

  5. N. Mark Davis III says:

I find all these posts very interesting. It would be very helpful if you could explain the data or evidence the pro anthrogenic climate change position is using. whats the difference betweeen your data set and theirs?

  6. Winston says:

One question about “sea ice extent” surface area as measured in square km: it seems to me that while surface area is a useful measurement, it doesn’t tell you the depth of the ice, which is very important if you’re trying to obtain an idea of the total mass of ice that is melting/freezing. I suppose that data isn’t available due to difficulties in measuring the depth and variability of the depth across such a large surface area. It is a little puzzling to me (as a relative novice in this field of inquiry) that surface area is apparently used as a proxy for “how much ice is there,” when you really need to know the depth (or change in depth) of the ice to really know what’s going on with the real “extent” of the ice.

    • Phil. says:

Most of there sea ice in the Antarctic is first year ice, we have just over 18 million sq m there now, only 2.5 million sq m of that existed in february. That limits the thickness that can be achieved.

  7. Phil. says:

During January, 1976 – there was almost no sea ice around Antarctica.

The article says “late January” which is within a month of the annual minimum, somewhat disingenuous to compare that with October data which is at the annual maximum. Comparing like with like the Jan 30 data is as follows:
    1979 4.02, 2019 3.06, 1981-2010 average 3.80

Now there is even less ice around Antarctica in January than there was in 1976 (see HADISST data).

    • Gator says:

Phail, late January is most definitely “during January”. And showing the current sea ice chart is not dishonest, it is what is going on right now. Is this really the best you can do? Phail, you don’t even have a nit to pick. LOL

Where is the criticism of alarmist cherry picking dates?

Where is the criticism of alarmists missing every single doomer prediction?

Where is the criticism of alarmists censoring and firing scientists with whom they disagree?

And why no comment on this thread?

      https://realclimatescience.com/2019/10/back-to-the-dark-ages-of-science/

And Phail, why no comment about Mark Serreze’s lie about Antarctic ice conditions? There has been nothing “crazy”, and certainly no “white knuckle ride”. These are things we can say are incorrect, and most likely are intentional lies.

You really are a poor quality concern troll.
