People have been eating insects as long as there have been people. Crabs, lobsters, crayfish, prawns and shrimp are a high end luxury form of eating bugs. Other cultures, especially Asians and many indigenous groups eat worms, larvae, spiders and all sorts of other creepy crawlies. What concerns me are those who will now suggest we stop growing beef, lamb and pork for political reasons. The Left is very likely to do that (except, of course, for their leaders).
Rory,
You seem to have forgotten that John who baptised Jesus existed on locusts and honey in the desert.
Now the honey bit is tasty, but I am not sure I as keen as Boris Johnson to “save the planet”
GMO? ORGANIC?
I suppose we could sprinkle the powder on the bullshit that they keep feeding us.
We might as well get some nutrition out of what we’re being force fed.
“How was the meal,Sir?”
“Very moving,hard to catch?”
Very astute, Stef!
When I had my leopard gecko, I fed it meal worms and crickets. There are plenty of edible things in the world if a person is caught in a survival situation. Unless you know exactly what is edible, something you eat can actually kill you.
“Experts have warned…”
Wonder what we’d do without such brilliant specialists to give us sound advice.
Just imagine the useful degree(s) these experts have….they have even been able to identify and define “the yuck factor”…
Why in the world would anyone choose mealworms, or any other insect, over a nice roast of beef, chicken, pork or Turkey? Why do people continually try to take us back to medieval times when one had to eat anything they could find? Why do we continue to crap all over our modern accomplishments?
Does anyone think that those in poor countries, who crave protein in their diet, would forsake a steak in favour of a f’n bug? It’s insanity.
Heck. It’s not like we haven’t been eating these insects all along in our cereal and flour products. With all the food that is wasted every day, it doesn’t seem to make much sense to start eating bugs – for now. Ha.
Well it is the 500th anniversary of the Diet of Worms after all. Which is also apt given the whole EU is a can of them right now. If only Marie Antoinette had said “let them eat worms!”
What is pathetic about this new European delicacy is that it is in stark contrast to their irrational ban on GMOs.
