Controlled burns that got out of control. Kids playing with fire. I did that when I was 10 and my friend’s father grabbed a shovel and scrambled like crazy to keep it from setting the whole hillside on fire. I felt pretty bad. Hey, I was only a kid, but these guys were adult professionals.

I guess the FS accomplished their goal. There’s about 400K acres (by the time it’s over) where they won’t have to worry about catastrophic wildfires in the near future. I wonder which will be more costly; this fire or the intentional one that burned Los Alamos some years back. Whichever, us taxpayers will be stuck with the bill for their incompetence.
