The climate fear-mongering is everywhere. Yesterday, I passed a bright red and orange billboard that showed some sort of vast conflagration. The billboard proclaimed
THIS IS CLIMATE CHANGE!
Well, where I live we’ve had a fairly typical spring season. If you found a small woods and surrounded it with one hundred guys with flame throwers, they couldn’t start a forest fire no matter how hard they tried.
What’s the point of this billboard? To inspire the fear of burning in a fire, just as you’ve pointed out. What’s the point of saying the oceans are unstoppably rising? To inspire the fear of drowning. It goes on and on. People who are afraid do as they’re told.

They keep0 saying the hottest day ever, but if you do a straw poll of people in disparate regions of the world, you will find that they are having normal or cold weather. Well, the world average cannot be the hottest ever if there are fairly large regions having normal or cool weather. It won’t average out to be hottest ever.
Tony: I can’t recall where I saw it recently, but if you do a simple analysis of the total atmospheric tonnage of CO2 based upon the concentration and the total tonnage of air in general, you can work out how much of the CO2 increase is natural vs man made (because we do have numbers on CO2 released by burning hydrocarbon fuels).
When you do this it turns out the man made portion is only a mere few percent of the increase. So no China is not raising global CO2 levels by much, most of it is naturally occurring. And of course there is no climate emergency, and CO2 is the essence of life, not some evil pollutant. (unless you believe humans and other life forms are evil)

After 14 years no longer an AGW believer, below is this layperson’s understanding. Tony, Gordon, et al, please correct where I may be wrong in my general understanding on this topic:
Humans are not responsible – not Asians, not the West – for any appreciable rise in atmospheric CO2. Human emissions account for how much, ~4% of the CO2 in the atmosphere? If Asia went dark, I think CO2 would still be rising in the atmosphere, as it is outgassing from the oceans – because we are in an interglacial (albeit probably nearing the end of its long run).
Additionally, carbon dioxide – always a follower of temperature – has never created a catastrophic temperature rise in the past. So, humans are neither responsible – not Asians, not the West – for any rise or fall in atmospheric temperatures barring localized UHI effect, possibly Atomic bomb testing, which perhaps/may have temporarily replicated some percentage of the effect on temperature as can volcanism (Pinatubo).
