“Why Scientific Fraud Is Suddenly Everywhere”

“Junk science has been forcing a reckoning among scientific and medical researchers for the past year, leading to thousands of retracted papers.

Last week, scientific publisher Wiley decided to shutter 19 scientific journals after retracting 11,300 sham papers. There is a large-scale industry of so-called “paper mills” that sell fictive research, sometimes written by artificial intelligence, to researchers who then publish it in peer-reviewed journals — which are sometimes edited by people who had been placed by those sham groups.”

I highly doubt that this happened suddenly.

It is a long ongoing trend, just as in politics,
where lack of accountability and punishment has attracted all the wrong people
who are interessted in fame and money the easy way – combined with massive influence and bribery from the pharmalobby, just as in politics.
The game is not controlled by those who are supposed to be in charge, but sold by them.
    The Peer-Industrial-Complex so to say.

    • I fully agree, we have had junk science for forty years. I suppose it is a variant of Gresham’s Law: bad science drives out good science. The half-baked, sloppy and fraudulent work is much easier to produce than quality material, and the rewards are much higher.Telling the sponsoring agency what they want to hear will always win over honest, painstaking work, which reaches undesirable conclusions.

      • arn says:

“poor methods get results” was the quote from the Lancet editor
who criticized the decline of science some years ago.

The other evil – we have either to do with corruption from usually the private sector or people who want to justify the existence of their jobs in the public sector.

that”s why AGW sill never go away.

And scientists and technocrats ,who can in theory solve all problems, will never solve this one.

      • Conrad Ziefle says:

Particularly when the sponsoring company is the dominant political machinery.

    • Mike says:

Well the Master of BS is Joe Biden so ….since 1972
      more or less!?

  2. Gamecock says:

Commie politicians found that people respected ‘science*.’ So they co-opted it for their culture war. ‘Science’ has been paid well to produce useful material for the commies. Which changed the view from the top of what science is. Junk papers are fine if they further the cause. That a university president would resign over it is quite odd . . . perhaps there is more that they aren’t telling us.

*See also “democracy.” The Left champions democracy, while doing everything in their power to destroy it.

    • Disillusioned says:

So, if Commie politicians found that people respected the papacy, they would have co-opted the Church for their culture war? Oh, wait….

      • Mango Thonotosassa says:

If you think the Church hasn’t been co-opted by communists, you haven’t been listening to Pope Francis the talking mule.

Or perhaps you have, and I missed your point…

        • Disillusioned says:

Indeed I have. And yes, you did.

I guess it was a little too muddy. I was being facetiously sarcastic while adding that the Cabal have infiltrated and influenced many “respected” positions of leadership and authority, including the Pope. Ergo, “Oh, wait….”

Thanks for posting and making the point more clear.

      • Conrad Ziefle says:

        I got your point.

the fact that 11,000 research papers were retracted just this year and the 19 journals were shut down all due to fraud (there were 10,000 research papers retracted last year).
is bad in and of its self but..

    https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-03974-8

It’s that we know the issues/problems are much deeper then just these 23,000 papers.
then add the fact that we don’t know, and won’t know for 1-2 years if the paper published this week will be found fraudlent or which ones will be found fraudlent.

There is also the use of these 23,000 fraudlent papers which are used to support others research (citations). In law its called the fruit of the poisonous tree

  4. Conrad Ziefle says:

Yeah, this was inevitable. When the free world decided that if a college education was good for the upper 20% in intellectual capacity, then it would be great for 100% of the population. That immediately meant the degradation of all intellectual pursuits.
When they decided that intellect was only a factor and integrated in other admission factors, such as it yours parents are dumb and poor then we’ll increase your admission score, because it is clear that you cannot increase your own score by spending time in the library. Ditto skin color. And if you waster your time engaging in socialist activities, then we’ll increase your score more.
You cannot get quality research from compromised intellects.
In addition, when the government gives most of the grants for people who promise affirmative research, and the professors have been trained that their jobs depend on affirmative research, then you get propaganda.
The whole research grant thing needs to be revised and some system of not seeking a specific conclusion needs to be instituted.

    • Conrad Ziefle says:

Unfortunately, I post before I proofread, but I think my points are clear to anyone who can read gibberish.

  5. Gamecock says:

    It’s not just ‘papers.’

Publications have been ascribing EVERYTHING to ‘climate change’ for decades. All completely bogus. No retractions pending.

  6. Allan Shelton says:

Years back, the same things that have happened/happening to AGW critics happened to anti Big Bang Theorists.
