Julienne Stroeve from NSIDC has been very busy this week, but is looking in to the disappearing MYI issue for us :
Steve, I will try to take a look later today. I know that open water developed later this summer near the pole so that could partly explain it. The old ice also became quite a bit thinner after the 2007 melt season so that is likely contributing as well. Note also that more “purple” appeared in the blue areas so it wasn’t just the ice older than 2 years, but also the 2 year old ice that was reduced….
I also have an email to Jim Maslanik about it, but he is out of town at the moment (back on the weekend).
Steve
Shouldn’t that be “October 6th”?
Yes. I’m living in the past!
Steve,
Keep on them; keep them honest. Your efforts are appreciated and should be welcome by people on “both sides” of the CAGW issue.
