Dust Bowl Deniers

A Holocaust denier is someone who denies that the Holocaust occurred. We have a new breed of deniers on the loose, those who apparently believe that the Dust Bowl never happened.

Lots of claims this week that the current drought affecting a few states is the worst drought in history. There have been numerous much longer lasting and much more widespread droughts – most notably the 1930s. As Hansen said :

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.

Ah but this was in 1999 before he realised he would have to reinvent history.

Het Steve! Shouldn’t we check with Hansesn’s official biographer before we print what is most certainly something Hansen said but did not utter?

Also, the Mississippi River did not ‘almost dry up’ in 1988. It was the lowest level recorded by the Corps of Engineers, barges were stopped on the lower portion of the river for June and July, but the river did not ‘almost dry up’. Drama queen Hansen. But then again, he may have never said what he said.

    oh please………….
History didn’t even start until 1978

  4. A K Haart says:

Steinbeck received a Nobel Prize too, in spite of inventing that Dust Bowl stuff.
