New Ice Forming At Point Barrow

The President’s science advisor said that the Arctic was going to have ice free winters. He must be the smartest guy in the US (world?) to get a job like that.

All that new ice up there must be warm ice, caused by “excess energy in the system.”

I heard from the the aliens that visited NYC on the 13th (they visit every night in my dreams) and they are cold blooded creatures that like ice and snow so they are responsible for the expanding artic ice.

    Steve,
Do you know (or could find) the average date for ice to form at Pt. Barrow/NARL? I looked at the website where the Pt. Barrow webcam is, searched around a bit, but couldn’t find any info on the average date for when the ice forms again.

This must have been a hell of a job but well wort the effort.

From the UPI article linked above:
“For example, an imbalance of 1 watt per meter square maintained for the last 10,000 years of the Holocene (post-ice-age period) is sufficient to melt ice equivalent to 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) of sea level (if there were that much ice), or raise the temperature of the ocean above the thermocline by more than 100 degrees C (190 degrees F).”

Football fields, Empire State Buildings, stories, Manhattans? This is logic equivalent to an LSD trip.

Looks pretty bleak there already. Is that surf or ice?

  9. Perry says:

Later comment. Answered my own question. What looks like surf or sea ice turn out to be snow piles from road clearing. Amazing what a little daylight reveals.

Ice forming as it turns to winter – what ever next.

“The President’s science advisor said that the Arctic was going to have ice free winters.”
    What? Starting from this winter?

This post seems to be content free, apart from its payload of angry sarcasm:

“The President’s science advisor said that the Arctic was going to have ice free winters. He must be the smartest guy in the US (world?) to get a job like that.”

No articulation or even a link to what Holdren actually said, why he said it. No mention of what time frame he had in mind. No effort to connect that with ice forming now in Barrow.

“Real Science” is ironically chosen as a name for this personal, political, and not the slightest bit scientific blog.
