We keep hearing claims that Greenland had above normal temperatures earlier this year. What was that about?
http://www.remss.com/data/msu/graphics/tlt/medium/global/ch_tlt_2010_02_anom_v03_2.png
February was about 4C above normal in Greenland. Looking at the RSS map, it is easy to see why. The bitterly cold air was over Russia, Northern Europe, the US, the North Pacific and the North Atlantic. Greenland was surrounded by exceptionally cold weather.
So how hot was it in Greenland in February? Pretty darn cold! It was one of the coldest places on the planet.
what happened to chrisD and brendan?
they must be the east coast, and have gone home from their full time blogging jobs for the day.
I think they work by the hour (or perhaps by the number of posts) and obviously their day is complete. They have now run over to the alarmist camp to collect the pennies for the days work.
That is just a plain stupid comment. There’s really no other word for it.
How much do you get paid for your posts?
How much does Amino get paid for his posts? He posts a lot more than I do, sometimes a half dozen responses to the same comment. Piecework?
ChrisD
it appears both of them are joking. Can’t you take a joke and not act like they were serious?
peterhodges, MikeTheDenier
don’t over estimate those guys. They aren’t bright enough to be full time believers. Their arguments are tedious and shallow. they take shots below the belt, and even lie. I’m sure that if there are people hired to blog for global warming they would hire people smarter than them to do such work. But then again those doing the hiring for such work, if it existed, may not be bright enough themselves to hire smarter people.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
You see ChrisD,
when you start lying about people it is expected to get retaliation from those you are lying about so they can protect their reputation.
It was hotter in Greenland.
Global Warming doesn’t mean there will be no cold places on Earth, just as it doesn’t mean there won’t be snow.
It means on average the planet will be warmer.
btw: Are you going to delete peterhodges off-topic post? You deleted one of mine even though it was on topic. Seems a strange form of editing you have here.
Bendon, it would be a boring site without you and Chris. That said, I’m running my space heater right now wondering how is it we imagine a couple degrees warming is bad? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we’re warming much, but I’m wondering how it is that you and others have come to the determination that warming would somehow harm mankind? Please note, as I’m running my heater, I have the knowledge that 100% of the electricity I’m using is currently fired by coal. We should want it cooler that I should have to warm myself and family?
Before you answer, consider the laws of energy. Cooler = less energy available. Always.
Brendon
what you should do is get your own blog. then you can run wild with every idea and whim you have.
Try taking a look at yourself and how much posting you do here. Sometimes it’s even relevant to the discussion.
I think they broke the keys on their keyboards that spell out the words “cherry picking” and the ctrl-v combo. I can give it a try though…
Hey what does disputing a specific cited claim with actual real data have to do with anything? This is bs cherry picking and you know it. You cherry picked one of the almost infinite examples of wrongheaded thinking on climate and proved it wrong. That’s a straw man argument and doesn’t even address the questions I posed to you 36 threads ago, which you continue to ignore and sidestep by drawing attention away with these bs posts rendering statements from the press erronious. Obviously you can’t fathom that the one guy in the article doesn’t speak for the whole of climate scientists.
Cherry picking must be one of the situation ethics things that the left wing of politics tried to teach the children of America some years ago. Cherry picking depends on the situation: when it helps “global warming” it’s not cherry picking, and when it hurts “global warming” it is cherry picking. It’s kinda like that weather is not climate thing they do.
Good one Trustsword.
My favorite is when Steve takes quotes from some famous CAGW promotor, usually one with an official government position and was involved in the IPCC, that give some alarmist prediction like – “global warming could lead to an ice free arctic, or global warming could lead to more floods, or droughts”, or whatever doom and gloom their models out put using riduculous assumptions. Then they start in with – that is not the official CAGW theory, or you can’t use the words of one scientist…..
As if the whole of the alarmist machine isn’t doing that very thing every day in every outlet they can find. They completely turn a blind eye to what is going on and how their constant over the top alarmism is what is being used to demonstrate the weakness of their position.
Darn it… they showed up at the same time and blew my attempt :/
If the warming is not global then why call it global warming? Let’s call it regional warming shall we? But that makes it sound like weather.
They call it regional warming for the Vikings in Greenland for 350 years during the Medieval Warm Period. They say the whole earth was colder than now at that time, but the region in Greenland where Vikings farmed was warmer than now. And that allowed them to farm the land for 350 years. That same region is now permafrost. Regional warm weather for 350 years—man, talk about global climate disruption! And they didn’t even use fossil fuels!!
;o)
That same regional warm weather is happening again in Greenland….whoda thunk!
;o)
Amino.
Would you please provide me with the link, or a location where I can trace back the source(s) for your post re: permafrost and vikings. I have of course heard it many times but I need a `official reference’.
Thanks for your help.
Like the Medeival warming, supposedly that only occurred in 3 villages on earth and nowhere else?
CO2 warms the earth everywhere according to the theory, so why when the sun shines at Greenland it stays cold weird hey look at UK and Iceland they are on the same level, surely CO2 is more powerful then the gulf stream, since CO2 heats the air http://weecheng.com/europe/greenice/greenland/gl-map.gif
Say Chris/Brendon, does Soros pay time and a half for hours over 40? I mean, being a socialist and all, I’m just wondering if he still believes in Unions when he’s paying the bill.
It’s a fair question.
Hey, If you guys demand the same deal the French get, you can cut your hours to 36!
Don’t hate. Just trying to be helpful.
They think all of you are serious. They don’t think it’s humor.
But you know, maybe the 10:10 people are paying them. hehe
does Soros pay time and a half for hours over 40
Nah. How about the Koch boys, do they pay you any better?
That is typical El Nino pattern heat. It was normal.
Steve why does your first Chart show the Temperature Anomaly (ie, how much it differs from the average), but you second chart only shows the temperature, highlighting for those who may be unsure, that in Feb this year it was much warmer in the tropics that it was at the poles?
To show how ridiculous the “hot” Greenland temperature claims are. Ice does not melt at -20C. Temperatures in the interior of Greenland never got above freezing this summer.
